Lubricant quantities
« on: 08 February 2010, 14:03 »
Guys,

The search function isn't giving me what i need to know on this topic..

Planning on servicing our GT TDI 150 at some point in the next few weeks.  I'm probably going to order a Haynes manual as I can't find a decent online workshop manual..

Can someone please confirm:

Gearbox oil - which one and what quantity is required in this gearbox
Engine Oil - I know I need to use PD oil, is 5-40 the right viscosity?  What is the required quantity in this block?

There's a How To in the general MK4 section, but the pictures have disappeared.  I've got a set of Gearbox drain plug keys and I've done gearbox oil before on my Accord so I'm confident with it.

Is there anything specific I need to know/watch out for?  Are the drain and filler plugs easily accessible?

Thanks in advance.

for the oil and filter get them from the dealers, oil is £25 for 5 liters and you need 4.5, fuel filter and oil filter comes to £28
as for gearbox oil change I dont know as Ive never done it

Just another point - when we had the MK3 we normally used GSF for parts.

Would you advise against it for the TD?  Should we be buying from the dealers now?

I use the dealers, its not much more expensive, the oil is one of the cheapest you can get
