Sorry to sound ignorant, I have no real idea about the tech stuff.  I will try to speak to Simon.  He is reputable, have a look at his website.  Also, other users on here have also used his services.

Wasn't questioning his reputability at all just that if you do ever end up on a rolling road and it falls short of that fact figure not to be too disappointed

If figures dont worry you then its all good as it sounds like you are extremely pleased with your map. And thats whats more important, sounds like a great job was done!

Exactly! Too many people chase headline figures rather than smooth, usable power

Average power is where its at these days

Like PDT said 240bhp is at the top end of the scale for a remapped 2.0 Tfsi running stock turbo back system.

But saying that, I had a Mk5 Gti in the other week which had a direct replacement garret turbo fitted, which made close to 260bhp 280lbft just from a spec1 map.

What happens if you dont declare the remap to your insurers?
I mean, how would they ever find out?

they have tools to interrogate the ECU

If you don't declare then you're not insured!  Not worth the risk IMO

Just purely for the sake of interest, is it a specific tool for seeing if its remapped (surely flash count isnt hard proof of a remap?) or is it just an ECU reader?

my mate works for an insurance company and he says with ecu remaps they have no way of finding out. Apparently the ecu has a counter which keeps record of how many times the sw has been updated/changed but unless you change it often they cant build a case on it.  My VW dealer says its a problem because they just can't tell if its mapped but under warranty they have to update the s/w to keep the warranty valid.  Tuning boxes are another story
