Mk V GTi and iPhone 3GS
« on: 09 February 2010, 16:24 »
I have a 56 plate Mk V Gti which has the old (pre touch screen) SatNav as well as the OEM hands free kit. I have just got an iPhone 3GS.

I would like to be able to use the phone either via Bluetooth or a Cradle preferably with contacts etc on the screen and also would like good integration of the iPod playlists etc on the iPhone. Does the newer touchscreen OEM Satnav do this or is there a good aftermarket option which I could replace the standard SatNav unit with.

Can anyone recommend a good solution?!?! and perhaps a good fitter in London/SE.

Thanks very much.

personally i would spend the money on a good quality double din unit with the appropriate facia, canbus adapter and aerial adapter
as a reference the kenwood DNX-5240bt is a cracking piece of kit

you can stream your music from the i phone or purchase the kenwood ipod video lead (kac-ip302v)and control it from the touch screen

That's more than I really wanted to spend but it does seem to tick all the boxes.

On the Kenwood website it says the iPod integration is only "Basic Function" with that cable ?

I need to think about it. How much would you charge fitted ?

it is full control brings up track listings playlists etc etc on the screen
i know this as i have this eact unit in my mk4 golf
the only thing it will not do is charge the iphone as the voltages are different
but this can be resolved with the use of a scosche passport adapter(around £30 on ebay) this plugs into the ipod lead then the iphone plug into that
the bluetooth built in also downloads your phone book to the stereo so all numbers etc can be accessed from the h/u and depending on the phone(my nokia does this) you can send and receive text messages from the h/u aswell
i would charge £45 to fit it aswell thats with me coming to you providing you buy the kit from me if not then the labour would be £65

have you thought about the parrot mki200 ? keep your headunit and you have a phone kit and something to play your tunes with. we are doing loads of these for our customers seem very popular at the minute also you can get a cradle for the iphone. that slots into the dash with a mounting bracket.
