intermittant starter
« on: 20 October 2004, 18:39 »
my golf.

i got a new battery on it, it was 400 odd amps crank so a little low and car wouldnt turn over

so i attached jump leads to my cav and revved it and my golf fired up  ;D

so i let it run upto temp etc all fine :D

then went to re-start it to put it in garage later with cav again and it made a mad noise like the starter was stuck and then it didnt do anything?

is my starter shot?
1.8 16v btw  ;D

Might be stuck , put the car in reverse and rock it backwards , this should release the starter motor.

Sounds like the solenoid - when you went to start the car the second time did u check the battery's charge as it might be goosed - or something else in the system is, and it's not getting a charge.

Start the car at night and go for a good spin and check the battery - leave it over night and check the battery again. I bet you'll find a difference  ;)

Then if that's the case check the other components are working correctly before running out to buy a new battery as it's often not at fault !

Sounds like you need to find them a home as other than the spot light loom there shouldn't be any 'spair' wires under there !

on the coolant one

there is three senders round the water outlet elbow on the side of the block

all three senders are just temp senders so can be interchanged to test them

Red/Yellow wire - dash temp gauge
Red/Green wire - ISV/Cold Start
Blue/White wire - Ignition ECU

u can test the ISV by simply feelin it with the ignition switched on. you should feel a buzz on touching it

MFA oil temp is the green wire on the back of the head
