I'm interested in buying a vagcom lead off ebay but I'm not sure which type I need, could anyone link to the correct type for a MkV GTI please?

Cheers!

I'm not sure any of the ebay ones are suitable for the MK5 as they need to be CAN based. You can get a cloned K+CAN vag commander but its not the same thing. It'll read fault codes but its more for communicating with/flashing the instrument cluster eprom. It won't do any of the adaptions, coding, logging or other fun stuff that vagcom (now known as VCDS) can do.

Stick with Ross-Tech cables - they are the best and if you buy from them you get lifetime software support

For the MKV you can have the more compact and slightly cheaper MICRO-CAN lead.

I only want one to be able to read faults etc and the Ross tech ones are far too expensive. I was hoping for an eBay bargain one. Do none of these work with the MkV?

out of experience I tried the ebay option and ended up sending it back cos it just kept breaking,  ended up with the genuine Microcan.

I also have Vag+k-Can Commander cos I do a few mk5 cluster swaps but this can kill your car if your not careful!! press the wrong but and you'll wipe the module coding completely.

If you only need to read/clear fault codes then one of these will do ... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/U281-VW-Audi-CAN-BUS-Scanner-Code-Reader-OBD2-Seat-EOBD_W0QQitemZ370309374917QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment?hash=item563828a3c5

They do work on the later can-bus cars.
