Squashing a DVD screen into a mk2 dash.
« on: 18 October 2004, 15:19 »
Seriously thinking of putting a screen in my car. I dont like the idea of sunvisor screens and there is no where for a roof mount in the front. So the only other option is the dash. Has anybody got a screen in there mk2 and have some pics. I was thinking of moving the electric window switches and getting rid of the ash tray and ligher cos i dont smoke and fitting one there. Anybody else got any ideas except for an expensive motorised unit.

thats where ive got mine. took the lighter out (non smoker).. took the console out ant took it to body shop where i live.. they cut out the shape, fitted it and put some rubber "trim" stuff around the side, fibreglassed in behind aswell. looks good.. sorry no pics though..

What i did before this was remove the console, mount the bracket upside down to the underside of the dash (which is normally hid by the centre console) then put the console back in.. hid the bracket weel. looked ok but was a b!tch to get the screen onto the bracket.. and the screen got hot off the heater blowers when they were on  :o

hope this helps a little  ;)

you need one of the single DIN slot version that comes out.

if i could find a version that included the head unit for under ?300 i'd have one, but the entry level ones are coming in at ?500 or so. if i used the Golf a bit more I'd have it by now.

the trouble with the entry ones is they're only a screen. you still need a separate DVD player or Playstation to run into them. spend a little more and get one that plays DVD and CD so it can replace your headunit. you'll probably find like me the novelty wears off pretty quick though.
