Improving the Sound of an RCD-510?
« on: 07 November 2009, 05:34 »
Hi, I like the look and interface of my RCD-510 (non-Dynaudio) in my MkVI but am disappointed in the sound quality (it's not 'bad', just not 'great'). It's a bit flat, one dimensional and reedy. I'm not looking for a Friday-Night-Outside-Burger-King set up, just a richer, more 'quality' sound.

There's a range of Blaupunkt amps (the THA range) that come with a wiring harness that simply plugs into the loom of the 510 but I'm wondering if it'll work with the Fiscon Bluetooth I've already plugged into it.

Has anyone with an RCD-510 added an amp/upgraded their speakers? What are the results like? Any suggestions? Does the Fiscon installation fubar any of my options?

Thanks in advance.

No-one?

Any simple "yes, you'll get a noticeable improvement simply by..."?

Fiscon is usable when you have the Dynaudio option, so that would suggest it will work with the Blaupunkt amp which will plug into the same outputs on the RCD 510 as the Dynaudio amp. From what I've read on other forums, the Blaupunkt plug-n-play lead and amp are a worthwhile upgrade even when used with the standard speakers. I'd think better speakers would also help considerably. There is also a longer version of the p'n'p lead so you could put a bigger amp in the boot and run a sub as well, if you are that way inclined.

So far it seems most people concerned enough about the sounds in their Mk6 have ordered the Dynaudio option, hence the lack of response to your question.

Thanks mac7. I'm still annoyed with myself for not going Dynaudio. As I need the bootspace I was thinking to put the amp under the pax seat, or even behind the dash / central console.
