Speedo
« on: 21 September 2004, 20:56 »
Is there anyone that can help me?!
I've just bought my 2nd mk2 8v gti and on closer inspection found that the speedos don't match!
One reads up to 120 mph & the other 160mph.
Both are 1989 3dr 8v's.
I've contacted as many previous owners as poss as to an instrument swap but no one seems to know!?
Any ideas?
Cheers

probably just got a 16v speedo in there. Shouldn't make any difference just the needle moves slower. easy to do as the speedo gauge is completely mechanical.

My valver has 160mph clocks, and that's totally standard. Imagine the G60 would have a 160mph speedo as well. I're reckon the difference would be the position of the red line on the rev counter - valver will be higher..

Redline on mine starts at 6800.
Don't think i'll push it too much though, just in case.

120 mph & 160mph clocks both use the same drive in the gearbox, so are interchangeable

140mph clocks use a different drive on the gearbox end of the speedo cable, so if you change the clocks u need to change the drive
