reverse camera - change headunit?
« on: 01 October 2009, 18:37 »
Hopefully I'll be ordering soon, and I fancy the reverse camera on my options list!
I have my own RNS-510 to retrofit when I get the car... so I'm assuming I'm going to have to spec a RCD-510 to be able to get the reverse camera as an option?
Not really a problem, as it'll cost about £300 extra, but I should be able to get most of this back if I sell it on eBay.

Now the question...
Is the RNS-510 a direct swap for the RCD-510 with the reverse camera?   I'm hoping that any wires and connectors will be on the camera side and it'll just be a plug and play exercise.  I realise I'll probably have to VagCom the RNS to get it fully working with the MFD, but I don't mind buying one with the amount of money I'll save by retrofitting the RNS and Bluetooth.

Has anyone done this?!

Thanks for the reply...

I've been through all the links on the page you've posted, and I've been there before!
It still doesn't tell me if I can do a straight swap from an RCD to an RNS with the reverse camera.  It only tells me how to retro fit a camera to an RNS!

Well, if a retro-fitted camera works with an RNS510, an RNS510 will work with a camera...

the guy on R32OC doesn't mention needing to re-code the RNS, it worked first time.

Pretty much a straight job, you will have to recode the rns for a mkvi ( bap) and for the camera

I'm going to ask the dealer if they can recode it before I pick the car up - and also enable bluetooth (for a retrofit too).
If not, I'll buy a vagcom!
