mk3 ice virgin needs help!
« on: 30 September 2009, 19:11 »
hi all i'm not an expert by any means when it comes to audio but i know good sound when i hear it. Basically i have a mk3 16v gti and i'm getting round to sorting the ice. For the time being i'm gonna be running the speakers through the HU until i have the dollar for the amps and subs etc. In the front door cards (unless told otherwise?) i'm going to stick either some alpine spr 17s's or some infinity kappa 652.9i's. i have bought some infinity reference 6500cs and they are just a big speaker with some separate tweeters. I want to make sure that the rears only get the low frequencies so i can leave the fronts to do the mid and high stuff. is this a good idea? what do i need to achieve this? any advice or help would be appreciated!

Your H/U has 4 channels and sends the same to all 4 speakers.
You can use the fade to lessen the rears.

Other than that you are stumped until you can invest in an amp.

IMO the Infinities are the better ones so you will see a good change from the standard speakers.

many moons ago i once had a set of infinity kappa`s and they were sweet as a nut. i have alpine type S now and i dont think they come anywhere near.
as len said though invest in an amp asap as your head unit isnt going to cope at high volumes with the component set alone.

it's only going to be temporary and for now they're going to be run on the HU that came with the car so i don't really care if i ruin it or not

so i should get the kappa's when the time comes then?

i am going to get the amp soon but i do things properly so it's gonna cost some money!

its more than likely to ruin the speakers than the head unit if you clip the amp in the head unit. i have my components running off a 4ch v12 amp bridged into 2ch mode for even more juice.
