Am i missing something here ? T and D = 12 months,24 months and 36 months service intervals starting from when you buy the car e.g first service 12 months after you brought the car.Longlife when the car tells you so,sounds easy enough to me :undecided:

Yes thats pretty much it- the parameters for L/life are between a  minimum - 1year /9300 miles and
max - 2 years/18600 miles.  Filters/plugs etc still have fixed intervals though.

Just checked my service book and Im defo on LL. Any tips on how to change it to T&D???
This can be done via the settings in the highline dash- highlight service then reset, this will change to time/distance.  On the Mk6 the procedures have changed compare to mk5, not just when reseting by the dash but also when using vagcom etc.

Erm, BOTH service regimes will tell you when you need a service.

The T&D is just a simple 'countdown' system - when 365 days have elapsed, OR 10k miles (actually 9,700 - because the system use kilometres to calculate) - whichever occurs first - is when you need a service.  Hence why T&D servicing is often referred to as 'fixed interval' servicing.

But the LongLife regime is slightly different.  Time-wise, a LL service can be needed anywhere between 12 months upto 24 months since the last service.  And distance-wise, it can be from as little as 10k miles, upto a max of 20k miles - IN THEORY.  In reality, those maximum mileages are only likely to be reached in a diesel, and NOT a petrol engine with a turbocharger.  It is fairly common for GTIs when incorrectly set to LL regime to call for a service after just 9,700 miles - which is exactly T&D territory - yet these customers then get ripped off, because they then have the more expensive LL service, when they could have had the much cheaper T&D oil change.

But the most crucial point - the T&D service is much better for your car, and especially so for a high performance car, such as a GTI.

Does the mk6 gti come with a default setting for LL service then ?,On my service history in the owners manual they have ticked the t and d service intervals section but  on the trip computer it says LL.I have purchased the fixed price (£250) 3 year service plan 12 months,24,36 so i presume they will reset it after the first service but does it matter ? isn`t it just a way of the car telling you the car is due a service ? (as long as you get it serviced at the correct intervals)

Does the mk6 gti come with a default setting for LL service then ?,

ALL VAG engines are factory filled with LL oil, irrespective of weather they go to a country which can use LL or not.

But there is no such thing as a 'default' setting.  The service schedule is ONLY set by the suppling stealer as part of the PDI, and unfortunately, unless you specifically tell them you want the T&D, they automatically set it for LL.

On my service history in the owners manual they have ticked the t and d service intervals section

Which was done by a pen pusher at the stealer.

but  on the trip computer it says LL.

Clarify.  What exactly does it say?

Anyway, that will have been set by the grease monkey.

But you don't expect to pay 20-odd grand for a brand new car, only to find they failed to correctly set it up!  You pay a specific 'delivery charge', and part of that includes the dealer correctly preping and PDI-ing the car - and they failed to do it correctly.

If it is wrong, demand they set it correctly!

TheTrip computer was saying next service due in 700days or 20,000 miles i`ve just pressed reset and this has gone to 9800 miles or 370 days.I`ll just take it in when its one year old and get it serviced and tell them to set the service to t and d.
