I have seen a couple of people on ed38 fit a metal tube with a filler cap or you can switch to an earlier rad.

You will need to fit an early rad or a metal pipe with a filler cap.

search for 'inline filler cap' but id go for the early style radiator with cap built in, much neater. ive seen beemer rads used as well, these have a cap on and pretty beefy. cant remember the model off hand tho

I've just fitted a new top fill rad to my mk2.  Was only about £60 from GSF.

That and an overflow near the filling point which most of these filler tubes and series 1 rads have.
