MK2 GTI Timing belt cover
« on: 18 June 2009, 22:59 »
I have a MK2 GTi with an early k jettronic engine with the code ev.

Trouble is, I've lost my top timing belt cover and was wondering if any 8v cover would fit.

I suspect you'll need a metal top to fit to your metal lower cover.  Any 1.8 cover should do.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

My EV has never had a top cover (last owner must have lost it). But at least I can see the wear on the belt whenever I jump into the bonnet.

I didn't run ANY covers on my old mk2, never had a problem and I did plenty of trips with gravel on the ground.

I would run the car with the covers on. Its how it was meant from factory.
Whether people actually want to is down to personal preference.

Agreed! Covers are there to keep stuff out. And it's only the top plastic cover I need now as I've found the bottom cover.

£13 from vw, i just bought one, and all the fitting holes are in the wrong place. i would run one, just so you dont trap your fingers in it, or drop some sh!t in there. its up to you tho, its not essential.
