If you really want full IPOD integration and full speed control of it, then an aftermarket head unit is the only way to go. Mine is a double din Kenwood and the Ipod integration is superb and even does video from the Ipod source. If you look around you can get double din units for under £400 new if you don't need sat nav. A double din unit looks better in the car too as it doesn't stand out as much as a single din tends to.
cool, thanks dude, can you post some pics of yours, and the model as well, may have to spend a few £, though can get about £80 for the original one judging by e bay. And being able to do the video's sounds cool too.

Explain Hurdy please......doudle din v single din.

I thought about upgrading to the sat nav thingy, but is there some OEM looking things out there that may be better??

cheers mate

Single din is the size of a normal head unit. Double din is basically twice the size. ie my double din unit has a 7" touchscreen which doesn't have to "flip-out" like a single din unit.

The newest of the OEM satnav units are now much better, but I still prefer the aftermarket ones for both ease of use and the amount of extra functions they generally support over OEM ones.

Hurdy, outta interest what Double Din Fascia did you decide to go with?  i've got a Single Din fascia thats OEM on its way, but is there a VAG Double Din one?  I've had my eyes on an Alpine Double Din as well ya see...what Kenwood is it and did you upgrade the standard speakers or just retain them and fit the sub in the boot?  ie. is the aftermarket unit enough power to make something decent of the standard door speakers?

I was supplied through an audio dealer who told me the fascia was an OEM double din one and so my guess is that they do them. The single din OEM unit can be hacked to create a double din unit (I've seen one done), but the results are "variable". I'd go for a double din one as the match to the OEM trim finish is good and the single din one appears to have a larger "grain" to it.
