getting hot hot hot

hi

i bought a mk3 this week and took it out for the first time today . its getting very hot . so i checked the water and it was very very low so i topped it up and its fupll . i checked the oil thats fine but its getting to like 110 -120 degress  ?? anyone know what it could be , is it me being silly ?

temp should sit in the middle of the gage (90 is it?), howvere not sure on the problem if you have replaced the coolant and checked over the cooling system?

yea i just put some water in no collant would that effect it ? also how do i check the collant system ?

i dont really know much about it to be honest, water should be OK, as long as there was enough coolent in there in the first place! i would just follow the pipes around the engine check ther in working order no splits etc, carnt help much more then that im afraid.

if i were you i would drain your coolant and get some summer mix in - ussualy 50/50 water/coolant.
is your cap sealing pressurising??
is the bottom pipe off the rad warm aswell when its hot??

as above mate  get yourself a new expansion bottle cap and check the bottom rad pipe gets warms. you may need a new thermostst
does your fan kick in ?

the oil temp switches are known to give false readings too.....get the water issues sorted and if its still high then check the switch
