it only happens if you run it without coolant for a long period of time. the other advantage of coolant is it doesn't freeze at 0, needs to be much colder.

a member on here ran with straight water in the winter and it froze. not good.

Corrosion aside, is there a realistic chance of the two coolants forming a gel which would obviously be disasterous? I would of thought not, but being the internet, i have read reports of such things.

i need to flush coolant on the barge, when I changed thermostat so much crap came out, I didnt clean it cos I didnt have time, but it is on my to do list.

Flush the coolant or pump out the bilges? :grin: :grin: :grin:

Drained it today, went to refil it with some g12++ (no idea what was in there before), and only put in about 3l before it was totally full. I don't think I may have got all the old coolant out. How bad is this? And for next time,should I run the car after I drained it to get the last bits out?


If you pulled the bottom rad hose off and let it drain dry, then you should have been able to get over 4 litres in. Be very careful to bleed the system as it sounds like you've got an air lock.
