radio to headlight (electrical)

hello all
has any one had this b4 looked at seach didnt find any help
ive wired in a radio to my car mk2 16v 91 it semed to work fine till i drove car at night switched light on radio goes quite move dimmer to the left ie dim instrutment lights radio fine changed headlight switch still the same rechecked radio wires is there a relay linking both , when i bought the car i turned lights on and the loom caught light by fuse box(replaced loom) but it didnt seem to affect the fuse box  will be changing fusebox next to try to sort this any one have any ideas whats causing this.thanks in advance .max

Cant quite work out what your saying here but my guess is that your headunit is wired with the dimmer wire which isnt a fault.

check the manual and snip the dimmer wire and that should sort it

hi dimmer wire shouldnt affect volume on a headunit. if u have wired the headunit in yourself make sure u havnt wired the sterio earth to the dimmer wire
have seen that before

ok il wire in a new earth .and see how that goes, cant understand how radio earth can be connected to dimmer but slowly will work though issues with the wires as guy i bought it from seems to have butchered it  :smiley: thanks for the replys will crack on tomorrow.max

check any grey/whitre wires behind the radio, and chop anythat have ended up wired to dash. you want red (live) and brown (earth)

ok found the offendending wire grey/blue dissconnected it, radio now fine all six speakers work fine dimmer works thanks for the replys till next time.max

ive done this a few times while in the wrkshop in the past. makes you feel like a right numpty lol
