Dont be a fanny. 8v's should wheel spin in 3rd. My old 8v used to anyway and that had 120k on it.

is that with ling longs on in torrential rain? cos its not happening otherwise

+1 mine would wheel spin in scottish rain (strangely enough is the same as scottish summer), when I had my crappy craperton tyres on. Once the RainSports when on, I barely wheelspin in first ;)

Treat it nice and drive it hard, "Motto" should work every time.

vag bottom ends are good for 7500 rpm, they'll do 8000 occasionally  on a std 8 v youve allready hit the limuter and theres no power there anyway the std ones i had were allways fastest whenb revved to 8 aand a bit before changeing.

never had an 8v spin the wheels up through 3rd without help thy'll normaly chrip decent tyers in 2nd in the dry or if youve sat there spiing them and overheated them you'll get 3rd but that help.   when the syncro had but prop i had a play on some ceats :)   just to see how good they wernt  proding the pedal just resulted in spinnage
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

Mines done 153k and gets the feck hammered out of it regularly, I never go past 5500 tho as it doesnt seem necessary. As for motorways and such, I've sat at 90 for 30+ miles with no issues at all.

I can agree with the above, usually do 100 miles at 90+ with no ill effects. The oil temp creeps a little towards 115, but some careful control of the blowers in the car trims it down ;)

Another agrreement here. I used to run up the M1 from London to Leeds and back every weekend in my old white one and would do most of it flat out for 2hrs with no issues.

London to Leeds in 2 hours, that's immense!

Best I've done is Manchester > Glasgow in 2hs 25mins ..... via aircraft of course

Just refering to the stretch of M1 from the M25 up to just north of huddersfield. It's about 160 miles so no that mental!

The actual journey was Reading to Wakefield but all in it took about 3 1/4 hours.
