Jeezus titty-f**king christ I had no idea that the price of gtis were so high!

When I first read this thread I thought you must be absolutely insane to have spent that amount on a mk2, but then I thought, to quote Rolls-Royce "The quality remains long after the price is forgotten." So good on you dude, hope you enjoy it like you deserve to!

I thought that car would have had to be a potential museum piece to justify that money (and by all accounts its by far the best one I've ever seen so it probably is), then I read what the others have paid for theirs and they still blew me away! £2,500-£3000?
I am genuinely shocked!
A-reg mk2 gti, first registered 01-05-84.
Know of any earlier mk2s?

Hi - I've just not had the time this week to do any prep' e.g. HPI etc, and due to work reasons I can't make it up to buy it this weekend. For some reason the bank details he has given me to put the deposit in won't work (he said it's not the first time it's happened, but his bank don't know why!), so I've told the guy to put it back on sale for now until I have a free weekend to come up and properly buy. I can't see it flying out the door at that price!

From peoples responses here, it may seem that the car is a bit overpriced, so I'm in no hurry. I think I was buying with my heart rather than my head. I'll still buy it if it's still available, but in the mean time I will be keeping an eye out for something cheaper.

Indeed it does pay to wait sometimes and sometimes you have to go with your heart, don't worry about who's paid what for their's, the key is as long as your happy with the car and it's the one that ticks all the boxes in your mind, trust me I saw around 30 examples when I was search for one and I often kick myself even now for not buying some of the cars we saw first, all on the basis of waiting for that perfect example to come along..

I went to a dealer who had the choise of about 6 late Mk2's along with a few Corrado's. www.volkscars.com

I could have spent alot of time and even more money going to see dozens of cheaper cars, but I found him on pistonheads, and as he was only 3/4 hour away, I thought I would go and take a look.

The cars are honest, original, few owner genuine examples. Well presented but not at all tarted up. I bought mine knowing that it needed a bit of paint, but safe in the knowledge that it was a very good basis to build from.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.
