Only 115bhp?  :lipsrsealed:

these are the figures that matter (oh and your generous with the 115hp  :lipsrsealed:)
abf 133 lb-ft @ 4800rpm + 148bhp @ 6000rpm
agg 122 lb-ft @ 2600rpm + 113bhp @ 5400rpm

see the tiny 11 lb-ft difference and thats 2200rpm lower (No thrashing needed for peak torque )
actually, my 8v has 135 lb-ft at 2800 all the way to 3800 rpm, and 116.6hp hp at 5400rpm. And that was in standard form

yep timinig off.  you potentially need to have your cam belt changed as well as this will also throw it out.

either timing or the ecu is in safe mode....(the timing is more common and easy to fix...just get the belt replaced at the same time)

How do you take the ECU out of safe mode?

either vag-com or disconnect the battery for 30 mins as this resets the factory values....but if the fault hasn't being cured it will kick back in!!

mine revs all the way through 7k

I forgot I was driving my car and not an automatic courtesy car from work for some strange reason (put it down to being stoned) was joining the M3 from fleet service station and thought to myself why isnt it changing gear, as soon as I looked down at the rev counter the needle was proceeding through 6,500 rpm

F*CK better change gear then.

What would cause my rev limiter to stop working? or has some idiot before me been messing about?

Yes and the 16v unit will produce the same torque as the 8v at 2600rpm, how much torque will the 8v produce at 4800rpm? not alot probably
