So i went out earlier and my head unit was fine all the way there. get back in the car to come home and the HU wont power on, but if i push it down really hard it will flick on for a second. Any ideas on what the hell might have happened?

the facia isnt attached to the headunit properly, or the power cables on the iso connector behind the unit are loose

Im pretty sure the facia is on fine, guess im gonna have to pull the unit out to check the connections. Its just weird that its been fine for over a year. Will i need a special tool to lift it out?

yes, you should have two 'keys' to dig down the sides of the head unit, and pull it out with.

Im pretty sure the facia is on fine
just because it is clicked into place does not mean it is making a good connection.
Try cleaning the gold contacts on both the faceplace and where they meat the unit. The best thing to use for this is one of those triangular shaped rubbers which you used to stick on your pencil in school
or some aftershave on a cotton bud, the rubber would be better though.
