vw mk5 rcd300 cd changer to phono/jack interface
« on: 09 March 2008, 14:11 »
hi, i've installed a harmon kardon drive & play in my mk5 gti w/mfd2 and found an adaptor from the aux port on the mfd2 to phono from ebay for about £12. i'm trying to sort the same setup for a friend who's got a mk5 but has the rcd300.

from what i can tell, there isn't an aux port on the rcd300 so i think i'll have to use the cd changer port. i've had a look on ebay etc. and can find phono/mini jack converters but it uses some sort of black box to do it and costs about £40.

question is, do i need this box, what does it do that a simple cable doesn't? anyone done this before and can suggest the cheapest way of sorting this out (seems ridiculous that i can buy a drive & play for £30 and would need to pay the same again for a cable.

thanks in advance

andrew

The main difference is that your cheaper cable is connected to the Ipod and the user interface isn't too hot (by all accounts of the VW Ipod integration)
The H&K thing connects to the Ipod - allows you to hide the ipod and still have the familiar Ipod menus etc.....
