I've got a set of 6.5" infinity Kappa 3 ways, 2 12" perfect 12.1 subs. any recommendations on an amp to run this lot. was looking at a kicker 850.4 or something. would i be better with a 2 channel and seperate on for subs?
cheers

Nice question, makes a refreshing change...!

It is up to you really.

for ease of wiring you would want a 4 ch amp and bridge the rears to run a sub.

if you are in it for the long haul and you can see yourself upgrading any time in the future then 1x 2ch ( or 4 ch if you fancy a bit more future proof) for your comps and a mono for your sub would be the way to go.
It will make wiring a bit more of a job but it will be worth it in the long run.

Most mono amps also use less power to get comparatively as loud.

Even if you got a 4ch to start with then you could still use it to full effect if you ever fancied getting a mono for your sub. It would make for a beefy front amp.

It depends a lot on your budget, I can't find a price on the kicker amp.

I've got the Kappa Components up front and an Infinity Reference 12" Sub, all being powered by a 4 channel JBL amp, it's good and when you first go to that from stock, it's loud, but now I want bigger and better, I'm not getting the most from the components and sub so gonna go for either a 5 channel amp or 6 channel amp to bridge channels for more power, or keep the 4 channel for the front and get a mono amp. Not sure.

I can get Kicker 850.4 for just under £200 which seems not bad for power. Budget depend on time I save up. not in too much hurry as need to build pods etc first

What pods are you building?
for the front speakers? where are the pods going exactly?

Not decided yet but in doors, was gonna have a bash first but door cards are immaculate so may get someone to do this professionally.

Its not as hard as you might imagine.
What car is it?

If you cut the original card cleanly then you can use the cut off part as a kind of template for your modified ones.

Are you going to be mounting the speakers to the metal of the door yeah? and (lots of ;)) sound deadening?

They are going in a MK2 golf. I was hoping to incorporate the original door pocket and kinda enlarge it to take the extra speaker. The 6.5" will be where original would sit and the 4" further back with the tweeter in either the mirror backs, above the 6.5" or on the dash. Kinda wish i'd just bought 2 ways now for ease of fitting but the 3s were a good deal.

3 ways will be a pain to get sounding right too.
