Mudflaps were the first thing I purchased, worth it and they look good!- I think the paints crap!!
replaced my Gti badge and it peeled the paint off a bit! (only a mm or so :angry:)

front of the car has coped with stone chips quite well.. not that I do many motorway miles tbh. Swirling of the paint is what bugs me the most.

Even when i picked the car up it looked like someone had gone over it with a electric toothbrush :sad:

Personally I have found the VW factory paint to be pretty good and I have a black car. The clearcoat is reckoned to be very hard in comparison to other manufacturers. Paint chips are just the luck of the draw and swirls are just down to poor washing.

There seems to be a pattern emerging from the replys

Black = good chip resistance

Red = not so good

I read somewhere that the solid colours don't have a clearcoat and that this is only on metallics?  Is this true?  If so it would explain why my paint stick was only the paint whereas I've read that others get a kit with paint and laqour...

i've given up on trying to keep the car in pristine condition after the supermarket dings on both front doors, the scrape on the front bumper, stone chips, replacement windscreen due to stone..etc..

I have had absolutely no luck in this car. Great car, shame about all the stupid marks and dings.

yes thats true about the solid coulours having no clear coat unfortunately ie red, mine is reflex silver 2006 with 39k and must say the paint is holding up on it very well indeed the light silver must hide the marks quite well or something and any tiny marks that it has got have covered quite well with the vw paint stick and clear coat pack and only cost £5.38 aswell bargain lol has anyone else found reflex silver to hold up reasonably well?  :smiley:
