yep those are for the electrically adjustible headlight range control.  as for the HID problem, it might be the dim-dip resistor thingy, its found near the driver side headlight, size n shape of a packet o polos.

possibly, good news is its dead easy to try.  follow the 2 yellow wires up from it and you'll find a 2 pin plug, disconnect this and bobs ya uncle :)

Potentially if it doesnt blow the fuse for the lights Im thinking maybe it could be related to the transformer unit provided.

I believe it generates a start up current of 23,000 volts then drops significantly back to a normal lower voltage.

They obviosly start up because you said they run for a small amount of time.

This is assuming you

1. start your engine

2. turn on the lights

in this order as obviously dipped doesnt work without turning the ignition on anyway and the current needed requires the engine to be running.

when you start them up you should get quite a significant pulse at the start then they dip and ignite.

Have you upgraded your loom also because I wopuld suggest thats also a good idea for the start up current.

Some people might take offence to Chinky. For instance me. PLease refrain from using this word as it's very derogatory and just plain rude and uneducated.

I had the same problem, but it was a duff ballast. Not sure how to check if they're working properly, but I swapped a ballast in from another set of Hids. Work fine now, but I have a spare which is annoying.
