jvc headunit fitted/ have i been done?
« on: 09 February 2009, 14:55 »
hi folks
just had a jvc kw avx810 head unit fitted to mk5 gt sport, all in all it cost 113 quid to get fitted? but heres the thing thee unit wont turn off at the ignition when i take the key out, the guy said i have to manually detach the facia every time, or the blue led light switch stays on. now this is a pain in the arse to be honest . i dont want to take the facia off after every journey.

heres the question can this be wired up so as to turn off when key is out.

i think this guy was just trying to get more business out of me.

thx

the problem with the mk5 golf is that they are can bus and there is no ignition live in the factory loom
what they have done is fitted it the cheapo way of not fitting a canbus adapter to provide the ignition feed
all they have done is connect both the live and ignition live together to a permanent 12v supply
i would be checking your receipt to see if they have charged you for the canbus
if they have then they have not fitted it

thx  def no canbus adaptor fitted. the guy has now said it could be wired up to fuse box and only come on when key is turned to the second position, if i have the unit on in this position. 1. will it cause any probs. i.e glow plugs will be on i suppose.

or if i keep it as it is will it drain my battery, as it is a small power on led .  thanks

with the can bus adapter it will come on on the second ignition as it should and it will also stay on till the key is removed from the ignition
yes you can connect it to the fuse box but the canbus is the better option
it will be ok as it is
it would take a long time for the led to flatten the battery

there will be a set up menu on the unit somewhere that you will need to activate
