now the trusty old 1.3 has gone wrong

WHY

dloody brake servo has split and every time the Mrs brakes it hisses like a snake and stall's the engine

GRRRRRRRRRRR

as if i don't have enough to do !!!!!!

will it fit ??

how hard is to fit ??

gti servo will fit but you might have to fit a rear brake compensator!  this is the only real difference between 1.3/1.6 and 1.8 models, and 1.8s all got a compensator.

edit: not a dash out job, take the lower dash trim off and undo the 4 nuts behind the brake pedal, and the clip holding the pedal to the servo.  Then go back to engine bay and undo 2 nuts holding master cylinder on, carefully pull it forward.  Brake servo can then be removed & swapped, without cracking loose the master cylinder pipes and therefore without bleedign the brakes.  I managed it on a RHD GTI so you should have no trouble  :grin:

thought all 1.8s have rear discs though ???

1.8 carby models have rear drums. they have the 9" servo and so need the compensator, whereas 1.3 and 1.6 models have a smaller 7" servo, and dont.  At least here in the UK, europe could be different i guess ;)

edit: actually the reason may be down to the wheel cylinders in the drums, AVS recons models with the compensator had bigger ones :)
