Erattic / stuttery engine note
« on: 06 January 2009, 18:21 »
For a few days, when idling, rather than a constant purr, the exhaust note has been jumpy/erratic.

It also affects when pulling off (put foot down and it stutters then about a second later gives some power to me)
Also (!) it was doing it on the motorway today over 65mph it would stutter/do the same.

Its quite disconcerting so any advice appreciated.

Reminds me abit of when you first start driving and you *almost* stalled it, it would go all jumpy

EDIT: Sorry its a 8v GTI (digifant)

When mine did this it was faulty ignition leads.

(PS...  Always remember to state which engine you've got, as it helps with diagnosis)

As said, possible misfire which can be caused by a number of things

Check all the vac pipes are in good condition and not split/adrift.

Also have a look at rubjohhnys tuning guide and get it set up correctly
