I paid for my android auto to be activated as at the time I did't have a windows laptop. So you can enable it yourself using a laptop and firmware or pay someone to do it. It cost me £120, but I think it is much cheaper now.

If you are not experiencing any problems at present, I would firstly get the valve phase timing checked. This will give you some idea of chain wear/stretch. It is also possible to check the tensioner through the front of the timing chain cover to see if it is the original and how far it has extended. If the original then get it changed as they were faulty. If changing the tensioner the work to remove covers etc makes doing chains and guides as well worth the extra cost.

My old MK8 had this exact issue, the dealer replaced the whole back rest part, they reuse the foam and cloth etc from the old seat I believe?! This fixed the issue, I’ve not had any similar trouble with my current 8.5.

This non PP car came on Potenza Sport tyres, which are far better performance tyres than the S005 or the other not so sporty performance tyres VW fit as standard to other Performance Golfs. I clearly have too much time on my hands!

Good spot! I too have kept an eye on the Edition 50 on auto trader for a while. It has had 12 adverts for most of its time, but recently dropped to 10 cars.

The Potenza Sport are indeed good tyres and have scored top thumps in recent car summer UHP tyre tests. They also have their new Potenza Sport Evo tyres with better longevity and tad better performance. I was thinking about using them when the weather is not great for the Race tyres, but likely just to have a full winter tyre set instead of running summers all year around.

one thing i forgot to mention, it has had a fresh new clutch and flywheel put in last month.

Ahh okay, that’s worth mentioning.

The new clutch could be related if it’s not fully disengaging properly it can cause grinding when selecting gears, especially higher ones like 6th.

I’d definitely get the clutch checked/adjusted before moving onto the gearbox. Could be something simple like the bite point or hydraulics needing a look.

Still could be synchro wear, but since the clutch was just done, I’d start there 👍

Was this sound present before you had the clutch and flywheel replaced?
