Golf mk7 / Re: Battery coding

I think you have to change the serial number. Can you do it by buying 10 credits on your set up?
I have the pro version so can't give definitive answer.

Unfortunately not. You can only change capacity and type and each of those is 30 credits each! I can get the Pro subscription for £42 so I may have to bite the bullet.

Golf mk7 / Battery coding
« Last post by greencode on 03 April 2026, 14:18 »
I’ve just installed a new battery that I now need to code. I have OBDeleven but I don’t have the pro subscription. I noticed in the one click apps you can change the battery capacity and type. The capacity has changed from 70 to 72 on the new battery. The type remains AGM. My question is can I just change the capacity for the car to know it’s a new battery or do I have to enter the new serial number which will mean I’ll have to buy the pro sub. Thanks for any help.

Golf mk8 / 8.5 - 1st oil change
« Last post by candywhite12 on 03 April 2026, 10:15 »
quoted 120 pounds for first oil change at 7.500km, does that sound about right?  I see that the engine takes between 5-7 litres, anyone who's had their oil changed at the dealers, do they also change the filter if it's just oil change and not full service?

Update to this, it's now mis firing across all 4 cylinders so I'm thinking contaminated fuel now. Will an additive like Techron help or do I need to bite the bullet and drain the fuel off and put fresh stuff in?

Bong update,
Took mine in for a service on Monday,  vw apparently not aware of any issues after the update but will log my concerns, pretty sure thay also did a software update and not had any issues since 🤞, also quoted £400 for a new ststeering wheel so well see what happens next (out of warranty btw)
Prob a bit late for you but have you considered the all in plan? I've just taken it out £960 ish, for two years. That is for two services, two MOTs and two years extended warranty with roadside assistance. It's a no brainer if you're planning on keeping the car. Personally I think it represents great value, hence why I took it out.

Yeah had a look at it when my original ran out just couldn't justify the cost at the time and car was running solid, and now dont really plan on keeping it much longer at this point be a shame to let her go but circumstances change so if I can get by the next few months without anything major should be alright, even if I do end up needing another steering wheel £400 ain't too bad

I was wondering about that.  The blurb on the VW website says only up to 6 years old but if I can extend another 2 then I will.  If you put in your reg number it just says you've already got one instead of telling you options.

You can take the plan out up to 6 years old so potentially have cover to 8 years old. If you wait a bit they have deals on from time to time, I got my last deal at £31pm. But you would be out of cover for a while.

Anyone with a 2020/2021 plate that's seen anything surprising come up yet?  I'm hoping the coolant one is just consumption and nothing more serious (its in for a service & MOT in 2 weeks)

I wouldn’t put a drop in coolant level down to consumption as cars don’t consume coolant.

New cars can leave the factory with air trapped in the cooling system that’s purged over time with a consequent drop in coolant level in the expansion tank. However, if that’s going to happen, it’ll normally be during the first few months of the car’s life (I had it happen in the first 3-4 of owning a previous brand new VW). A drop in coolant level some years down the line usually indicates a potential leak or - with VW - potential water pump / thermostat housing issues.

When the engine’s hot and the cooling system’s under pressure, can you smell coolant if you lift the bonnet? Are there any signs of coolant / dried up coolant deposits in the engine bay? Has the coolant level dropped suddenly or gradually over time?

I’d certainly keep an eye on the coolant level and if it drops again, that does suggest you may have a leak.

Not smelled any coolant and no physical signs of a leak.  Last time this happened was with my old 2008 TSI and it needed a new radiator, but that was bone dry and there was no warning when it dipped below min.
