They may polish out or "nearly" out.  Do you know anyone with a machine polisher ?

But you won't get an original VW window fitted! It'd be the cheapest compatible glass and fitter they can find.

A bit late now but the glass used in the Mk5 is known to be soft and to avoid scratching you should not use an ice scraper.

fully original replacement glass for £50? sounds good to me tbh. better than fannying about trying to polish it out.

or deal with the scratch.

Thats bad luck SteveS but is well documented with the MkV windscreen.Deicer spray and rubber scraper only.I always use a dustpan with rubber edge to clear snow from my windows.I always use the defrost function which is very good on the MkV.Always best to give yourself an extra 10-15mins in wintery conditions to sort windows etc..

My Insurance excess is :embarassed:

So is it best to get the car running and put the heaters on for 5 mins while drinking a coffee?

your windscreen excess is usually around 40-60 though, it's different from your usual excess and doesn't affect your ncb.

shocker!... i think it was autoglass i used when what can only be described as a flinstone style boulder hit me windscreen and it is as or if not OEM they replaced with, must be down the insurance company i suppose.

Yeah, It depends on the company. The new screen I have had fitted is IDENTICAL to the VW one I had before. Only diffrence I can see is that I no longer have a little VW logo in the corner of my glass. Other than that there is no diffrence. You will be able to tell if they replaced it with an OEM by looking for the VW logo, did they use OEM?

hasnt got the stamp either but, it is identical and he actually told me it was the same glass, not sure why it doesnt have the stamp, could be only if brought through VW themselves?! not sure?

Yeah, you have the same as me mate. Its not a OE VW windscreen then. They said the same to me, they even came out with "but its made in the same factory as the VW windscreen sir". I wouldnt worry too much about it, like I said in my other post and you have just said its identical. Might even be tougher than these "soft" VW windscreen everyone is banging on about.

Steve, a replacement windscreen does NOT affect your NCB :)

Deicer spray and rubber scraper only.I always use a dustpan with rubber edge to clear snow from my windows.

Got some de-icer spray stuff but worried it might cause damage to the paintwork as it runs down after wiping. (think it says on the can to wipe off paintwork)
