I last changed with synta gold F/S 5w40 from vw which lots of people use :wink:

You sure it's F/S 5w40? Just looked on Halfords, and F/S 5w40 is ALL for turbo diesel engines.

I shall have to nip to their parts department and enquire on 5 litres of it. Got my new dump plug and oil filter here.

i just paid £14 odd for a 1 liter bottle from vw :angry: parts man told vw dont sell it in bigger bottles :angry: ......... that was synta 5w40!!!!

If they try than on me I'll just go somewhere else and buy something different.

right just rang my local vw dealer and spoke to a nice informative guy for a change :undecided: the oil is synta 5w40 they recommend 10w40!!he cant understand that either, but we both agreed on the right stuff lol anyway its SYNTA GOLD 5W 40 FULLY SYNTHETIC PART NUMBER ZGB115QLB00421 PRICE £28.01 FOR 5 LITRES...£14 odd for 1litre thats what i was sold before when they wrongly told me u can only buy it fom vw in 1 litre bottles!! :angry: :angry:

i personally wud use 5w40 f/s synta mate n not magnatec 10w40 mite cost abit more but will give better protection.......doing an oil change is really easy id get the 5l bottle from vw for £28 then either get a garage to do the change or get a filter and do it urself £35 max if money's tight :wink:

think its in the engine had a question on this at the pub quiz not sure if i got it right :laugh:

the oil filter is at the front of the engine pop the bonnet look under the dipstick u'll see it! u can't miss it bout the size of a can of baked beans lol :laugh:

if put on byu a garage most of the time yes but some people tighten them too much you need to use a oil filter tool can gey these from halfords :grin:

It can be done, but it's hard to get enough purchase on it because of the location. IIRC, it's a lot easier to undo from underneath. :afro:

dont for the love of god put 10/40 in. i had it put in by a "reputable" company and almost destroyed the engine! 5/40 fully syn all the way :cool: i also invested £16 quid in a magnetic sump plug from awesome gti :smug:
