Title: AWESOME
Post by: cohiba on 27 October 2008, 13:06
As a few of you know I wasnt too happy on saturday with the result of my run on the rollers at 267bhp after having fitted Forge DV, APR HPFP, APR STG2, APR intercooler, APR exhaust. Went back to Awesome this morning, they re-caliberated their rollers and we did a couple of runs...
Results are, 337.99bhp and 363.56lb's of torque. The question is...were my figures taken at the wheels? I'll put both graphs up from this morning. I'd just like to thank the guys at Awesome for spending all morning re-caliberating the dyno, checking and re-checking that the figures are correct.

Wow, pity we didn't see that on Saturday.

Did they do anything with the car before those runs?
The first graph should be calculated whp.

Hard to believed the you have a drive train loss of over 60hp on a fwd car.

Nothing was altered on my car.

Nothing was altered on my car.
In that case I'm speechless.

I spoke with Al on Saturday concerning your initial results.

I'm at Awesome on Saturday for our RR, should be an interesting comparison. As you have pretty much identical mods to myself.

Do you have an up-rated intake?

Post by: joesgti on 27 October 2008, 13:56
makes you wonder if they gave you the whp figure at prosport instead of fly wheel??  :undecided: :undecided:
Title: Re: AWESOME
Post by: ZBOYD on 27 October 2008, 13:59
Does seem to be a large loss on the wheels though than i've seen on Awesome's in the past

Mine did 334hp and 350ftlbs at Prosport on Saturday for the record.  Only difference I can see is I run the Dbilas k04 intake.

Hi cohiba , good of you to post up. and glad its back to full health
Im v surprised to be honest , your 267 bhp graph seemed to flatline
does the awesome graph look the same in terms of shape?
Either you had a problem and its gone away , or you never had a problem and Proport had problems getting a reading.
wonder if theyd give you a free run to check

Has the car felt the same throughout all of this ?

enjoy the car , I think there was universal concensus the APR exhaust sounds the nuts

it cant be whp from Propsort as that would be crazy numbers. its flywheel corrected bhp

methinks they need to recalibrate something else there, since hp is a calculation of torque x rpm / 5250.. that graph is kinda abstract looking.

My car has felt the same throughout all of this, very smooth power deliver but a beast when you want it to be, by the way i'm running a carbonio intake.

Post by: ZBOYD on 27 October 2008, 14:23
Just removed my Carbonio in favour of a larger intake in the Dbilas.  So will be interesting to compare my graph from Awesome with yours after Saturday.

??, so you go in with 267bhp, they alter there rollers and then you get 333.7bhp  , im confused

Thursday last week mods were done, read out 327 bhp, give 3 days for map to bed in, this morning 337.99.

Good to see your car is getting the results now.

338bhp sounds like the ball park figure for all those mods. Any idea of boost pressure readings?

bear with me, i dont really know how a RR works BUT what if the prosport measures whp aswell as flywheel and the RR tech guy clicked on whp on his comp, thats why it printed out?? if this doesnt make sence then feel free to shoot me down

No idea what the boost pressure readings are, what i would like to comment on is the apr torque arm insert. The manuel gear box is more presice and a lot smoother, having no mods to the shock or roll bars, yet you can really feel the difference and there are no vibration or any difference in ride quality.

maybe joe...and you cant be shot down for asking questions
The RR can only measure wheel hp directly, then calculate transmission losses on the coastdown.
The difference is added back to get 'estimated' flywheel hp.
from what Peter said the torque value is calculated from that using the revs
Traditionally the older 'braked' dynos gave a @ wheels figure only , but they can be very hard on a car.

fyi stage 1 APR =  22 psi peak!  dropping to 15-17psi sustained
fyi the dogbone is the dogs

torque is measured, hp is calculated, like i said on page 2.. which is why that graph looks jackanory if you take the point of peak bhp and work it out yourself from the torque and rpm

Agreed, looks like they calculated it then bunged on 10% for good measure!

I think they drew it on an Etch-a-sketch

i dont understand?? are you on about the prosport RR or AWESOME? i dont really understand how it can go from one RR to another 2days later and get stupid difference??!!?? even thow nothing was touched on the car!? but the fly figure at prosport matches the whp figure at awesome!!??
Title: Re: AWESOME
Post by: Horney on 27 October 2008, 16:07
Me and Toph are talking about the graphs in this thread.

hp = (Torque x RPM) / 5252.

If you take any point on the torque graph and multiply the torque marked on the graph to it's corresponding RPM then divide by 5252 you don't get the hp they claim on the same graph.

Awesome's rollers

i dont really understand how it can go from one RR to another 2days later and get stupid difference??!!??

Me neither, and that 421lbft torque figure from awesome for the same untouched car a few days earlier has to be added into the mix too.

The transmission losses seem way off and like i said the calculated bhp doesn't seem to relate to the measured torque the way it should.

is that how bhp is calculated, pritty simple really?

is it possible that is ps??

when was this? so the same car went on  RR on 3 different ocasions and got completely different results each time, and was done on 2 differen rollers?

yep, quite simple.. and since one is a factor of the other with a constant, that is why the lines for the torque and bhp should always cross at 5252rpm.. and those clearly don't.

is it possible that is ps??

nah, it would say so.. and even then it wouldn't be that far out (1.0 PS = 0.98632 BHP)

the 421 was from the chap's original post just after he had the mods done.

Post by: john_o on 27 October 2008, 18:32
good points guys
Interestingly if you look ar Gaz's graphs in the remap review sticky his dont cross at 5250 either!
But they do look the same shapes.

As for 10% , well thats an absolute measure again so open to interpretation.
