Title: Well, I'll be...............................
Post by: Ivor Mk4 Turbo on 26 October 2008, 17:47
Damned!!!

A few of you may have noticed that I've been whinging like a little girl over the past month or so, due to some missing ponies under the bonnet!!

Well, I'm pretty sure (fingers crossed) that I may have now sorted it.  The problem was with the vacuum hose that goes on the top part of the Forge DV.  What happened, was that when my new KO3-S went on with the new SFS TIP, the TIP pushed up & stretched the vac. hose which was strangling the flow.  I forgot to take a 'before' picture, but I've pulled the pipe down with my finger so you can see what was happening.  (I also reversed my Forge as per advice from Midland VW):-

This was the finished article (**EDIT** With the new longer piece of silicon):-

I'm quite chuffed, actually - The old girl seems to be pulling how she should, again!!   It's got the  factor again!!

The reverse DV makes a funny little 'ping' now, though!!

I can't remember, TBH!!!  I think I'd need a masters in VAG engineering to comprehend what was said!!  There was a lot of head nodding & 'uh-huh' coming from me, LOL   Basically, he said it was better suited for my engine to run it the other way around?!

I'd say yes, it's a lot better (especially top end)....... BUT.......  It's probably not worth replacing a perfectly good KO3-011, IMO.  Sure, if your KO3 dies, & you haven't got £2-3k for a mahoosive turbo, then do it. :afro:

Thing is, though, is it the reverse DV that's sorted it, or is it the vac hose??  Don't want to try the DV the other way around in case I disrupt things!!!

That'd just be asking for trouble!  I've enough to get fixed on the car as it is, without ruining my dv/turbo

Yeah, think I may give it a few weeks first.

If the vac hose was kinked like that, i'd say the new pipe solved the problem and not the dv reversal.. but that won't do it any harm either way. I think i need to get busy with photoshop to draw some diagrams to help explain how the dv works and what reversing it does :lipsrsealed: .. could take some time.

add that info to the 'invisable sticky' on DV's  :lipsrsealed:
