I need to book my car in to get the breaks sorted out as the front set are squealing like a pig when I apply them hard.
How much will VW charge for a new set & fitting? Just a approximate ballpark cost will be great :smiley:

i paid £30 for mine and fit them myself but should take vw 30min to do them

Wow, dont think I could bring myself to spend that much on a watch. Im not much of a watch wearer anyway...always texting on my phone so I use that for the time and date :smiley:
Wont you benefit from getting some better pads such as green stuff? Theres a thread somewhere listing the best of the best. Will try find it and get back to you.

Just an example. Fixed the quote aswel.
Can’t find the list btw. May just be best to go with the original pads as I have read somewhere that new ones need to be suitable for the discs. So some really good pads may not work well with the standard discs unless someone can recommend some?

I have it booked in with VW this Saturday, so they'll just be the standard ones.
They are quoting me:
Front £141.80
Rear £108.72
Inclusive of fitting, VAT etc.
Does that sound right?
They also said there's a recall on GTI's, they need to check the "engine control thingy" (the lady I spoke to's words not mine), what is that all about then? :huh:

thats very expensive :shocked: just buy the pads from vw and do it yourself or do you have a mate that knows how to change them? its easy to do

That seems an over inflated price for a 15 minute job!!

I wouldn't have a clue how to do it myself and wouldn't want to take the risk of cocking it up. If I have no car, I can't get to work so it's just not something I'm prepared to risk. But yes, I thought it seemed a tad expensive but even if I bought the pads I don't know anyone who would be able to do it. Catch 22....

Cheers mate and I'd have bunged you a crate of beers or something....shame Halifax is miles away from Bedfordshire!!
Going to use the opportunity to get a few little niggles sorted out as well. My accelerator pedal is a bit "clicky". It's as if the 'plate' that my foot touches is loose or something and they said there's a recall on GTI's as they need to check something out...

Just got a price today for rear pads for my sisters MK5 TDI.
London Stealer wanted £154, inc vat and fitting.
Then called local normal non franchised garage they said the pad themselves are £17 plus vat, and the all in price fitted including VAT, would be £88.

So I took my car to Wayside in Dunstable on Saturday and they took a look at my pads and said they are good for another 10,000 miles!
They said they could take them out give them a clean up etc for me which they did (cost over £120) but I'm pleased with the results, they feel much sharper and no more squeaking!!!
Regarding the recall, they have to replace a fuel sensor and I've got that booked in for a couple of weeks time. They said they are replacing the sensor as a precaution so it's not something that needs to be done urgently.

I know it's a lot, but the squeak was driving me nuts. That cost included two new wiper blades too... :embarassed:

ok, well you didnt mention that, 2 front wiper blades are about £30 from a stealer.
