Post by: dan_apps on 18 October 2008, 10:01
was speaking with a stealers yesterday about chipperin' me motor in for a luvvvly candy white ed30 DSG, 1000 miles on an 08 plate! bit naughty really as i keep saying i might be sellin mine over the next year or so, (in favor of 2 new toys and yes will be a GTI) but thought its a buyers market at the mo so give it a shout! anywayz to cut a long story short i asked him how much he would give for mine on p/x? £12000 he says, i thought blooomin hell wasnt expectin it that low, thought maybe 14K. he said he could do a good cash deal on the ed30 i thought i bet you bloody could! jeeeeezzz! anyone had better than this by chance? am i being silly?

....

It's only ever a buyer's market if you're not selling in order to buy. That applies to everything, not just cars.

You'll get more selling privately, but it's more hassle.

Just think yourself lucky you haven't got an Passat R36, my local dealers have a demo one (don't believe it's even registered) and they have already knocked over 6K of the original price and thats before any haggling

You're probably better of giving until after the new reg in March, if things pick up and people start buying again the demand for second hand may go up to and so will the prices. At the moment things are just to unstable and people are being very cautious.

i know still thinking loads about it, dont want to be silly though and throw cash at it, might just be sensible for once and hold off, see if i can sell privately first!  arrrrrrghhh! i really dont know!!!

you will struggle to shift privately, see if they will meet you some sort of half way, get 13k for yours . They wont let you walk away without losing a possible deal. How much is the ed30 up for and what spec?? , give me a call if you wanna chat about it Dan, i promise i wont try and convince you!

ha ha i know you mr mcavity! its due to everyone on here that im thinking about it! no seriously thanks Phil :afro: will give them a ring on monday and see if they can do something for me.

spec is sat nav, winter pack only 1000 miles they are asking for around 24K, which i aint going to be payine of course!
Title: Re: sign of the times!
Post by: Saint Steve on 18 October 2008, 17:58
id offer them 21k at most. If they wanna take a gamble and hold 20k's worth on their forecourt. Thats awefully high price just for winter pack and im guessing touch screen sat nav. See if they would remove sat nav, and give you 2k discount at least.

Any xenons??  centre arm rest? highline? Cruise? parking sensors? or is their a website you can give me a link? Is it a vw dealer in wales?

All these questions, i neeeeeeeeeeeeeed answers!!! . i will spend your dosh for you dan

Does the reg number end in JNK by anychance Dan?  DSG  or a slower stick shifter with OGS reg number?

She looks like she has all the toys except Moon Roof. Id haggle on that price mate, see if they will remove the SatNav and do you a deal??.

Looking with what its got, you'll be lucking to get £2500 off, but they wont budge on your trade in if they do. You should find out what dealer forecourt is for yours, then knock off 2k, and thats deemed enough in a part ex to do a deal.

If your cars 18500 on their forecourt they should offer you at least 15k. (depending on your mileage and condition of course) use the other white Ed30 choices as a bartering tool on Vw's website, say your take your money to them instead if they cant. Especially that they are cheaper then the one your offering to buy and your not bothered to travel to see the others.

Watch em squerm!!

Just wanted to add my two pennies.

I recently bought my Ed 30 from this garage (september) and have to say the guys there were brilliant, they also know their stuff on tuning, the business manager had his Ed 30 chipped the day I collected mine.

I really wanted an R32 but to match my specs they were in short supply, plus I absolutely loved the Ed30.  I would have bought the Candy White without hesitation if it had 5 doors which was for me was a must.

They guys did knock some lumps off of the original sticker price but the downside was my trade in which was not a VW.  So suffered there, but I wanted the Ed 30 so much in the end it was worth it.

Good Luck

Phil, thanks for that.

Spent the last couple of days with the Collinite, and glass cleaner, all day today claying and sealing the alloys.

My lad is a detailing guru and its rubbing off on me.

Pics as soon as my lad helps me out.

Tis a fab spec, and they are gonna have that car for some time at that price if they want to shift it. I laughed the other day, the 1st red edition30 i fell in love with somewhere up north STILL has it for sale. Was priced at 18995, went up to 19275 unbelievably and now has a managers special!!!.

I found loads of things wrong with 5-6 warranty claims with it with paint defects and upholstery claims. They dimmissed all these over the phone to me, untill i tapped into Vw's database to find its history

I wonder this was 6 months ago, anyone live near this car???

It is indeed a sign of the times. Mini production at Plant Oxford is having a 4 week shutdown at christmas instead of 2 due to a lack of orders and both Landrover and Aston Martin have dropped to 4 day weeks to stop over production. Also a lot of dealers are cutting back on staff and a few are closing down. There'll be some proper bargains floating around by christmas but only a bargain if you don't have a nearly new car to get rid of. For those looking for their first newish car purchase it'll be good times!

Cookie, your doing the same as me. I was planning on going to my dealer as I need something looking at and was going to see how complicate it would be for me to get an ED30 as my finance is with VW. Turns out I didnt need to go in the end, not sure if thats a good or bad thing at the moment lol.

been chatting with the dealership and it really isnt worth doing at present due to the defacit i would have to front (due to finance) on my car, thing is even though as ive said its the one i want im not going to be silly about it and i bet it will still be there in a few months time so i might give them a shout back then, see if they are getting desperate!
im happy enough with mine anyways, just needs a few mods!

I really would look to sell private.. there seems to be a little bit of a hang up on doing this for some reason. not just on here but previously I have had to sell cars for friends and family who have previously only dealt with stealers.

Autotrader really is the best place still... and if you were to advertise and the best price a dealer gives you + £500, no doubt you will find a sale very quickly. Made myself quite a packet doing so too

Hi Guys
New on this forum!...............we collected our Tornado Ed 30 last week having done a good deal P ex on a GT tdi 140. It's definitely a buyers market and I wouldn't be afraid to push the dealer! Do your homework first, we checked out the VW forecourt price on our P ex and used that to get another 1K for it. Also they see the MK 5 as an outgoing model so keen to move the stock by new year. If you want an Ed 30 as we did (and new at that) time is now!! Really love the car..........only done 200 miles in it! We also shopped around on the net for ' Gap' insurance. Then when we confronted the dealer with a £200 saving over his price he matched that too!!! Just goes to show the dealers are struggling too!!!  Don't give in too easily

Cheers Steve B

Good advice there steve b!! Always shop around on the net first and get your dealers to match the price. Its always good to have that in hand as a they will not want to loose a sale in the current climate

p.s. Enjoy the new ride!!
