bulkhead grommets for one.. but if its dcoming directly in form above lift the scuttle. acc and clutch cables go into bushes that are horizontal, as the cable goes directly downwards.

on mine i noticed a cable and some dirt had formed a 'dam' to the right of the ECU bracket, I've lifted the cable up and secured it, and cleaned out the crud.  this seems to have stopped my leak!  apparently it can also come in from the plate under the ECU bracket, since this is a big hole at the factory with a plate glued on top, worth a look.  Also the top corners either side of the screen where the wings attach are a real bad rust spot, well worth a look!

yeah, mine was crudded up by that cable but water could flow - shall have to lift the ECU out to look underneath

MAtt, cables seems ok, but will grease around them which should just make sure

I agree with jonny on the blank under the ecu, I used to have a mk2 that leaked like a seive on the drivers side. On investigation I found it to be the sealant that had peeled off round the blanking plate under the ecu. I ran a line of fresh silicone round there and it was sorted, nice easy fix that one.

my plan is when dash comes out to take the ecu & scuttle covers out then lie on the floor looking for daylight

well i got a giant fanny pad from work  soaking up the water and a heater in the car to aid drying

will pull the ecu later and seal the world

Hmmmm....I kinda have the same with my mk2, I took the carpet out yesterday and started removing the alarm when the heavens opened and i sat on the floor and saw where it was leaking, kinda, my foot was getting wet below the clutch pedal, and it was running down the door rubber, so i pealed it back and it was leaking from behind the roof lining!!, before that it was leaking on the passanger side where the heater thingy is, where i found a previous owner had put flashing around the fan vent under the bulkhead!!!!

Dry weather car at this rate!!!

spunky ive got the 2 exact same leaks. passanger side coming fm the fan housing, and from the clutch pedal too. I greased up where the acc and clutch cable comes through the bulkhead but no good.
Exactly were was it leaking frlom on both sides mate? any chance of pics? its starting to fustrate me now!

if the one from the clutch pedal is as spunky described and traced back to the roof lining, i had this leak and it was where my sunroof drain pipe had disconnected itself from the drain hole? try taking your lining down a bit and see if it leaks? if you've got no sunroof, check all the other places mentioned in this thread?

my sunroof drain works, so i can rule that one out . :smug:

and this is the first time had this, and the car has got wet a lot this year.  am I glad I gave up biking

I too have heaps of leaks just now...some common ones others I dont have a clue.

Want to rule out the "ecu leak"

If i disconnect the battery can I just unplug and remove the ecu without consequences?

sh!te given the weather we are havin it looks like there is going to be a few fast track PHD leak engineers LOL,  i have the same tissue and have got it resolved,  after much searching on forum i completed the usual suspects.

New scuttle tray ( mine was cracked)
Unblocked sunroof drain holes
Used Mastic sealant to seal upper blower cover to bulkhead
Front door membranes and unblocked drian holes on doors
Replaced accelerator cable
Replaced Clutch cable
Replaced both door gutter strips

This was done over a period of time and after my recent respray i still noticed water ingress on both sides especially the drivers side coming from surrounding area of clutch cable.

As i had replaced both roof strips during the respray i needed to match the doors to seal with new strips,  ( i had carpet out and cleaned and was not fitting until i got to the bottom of leaks) any way this required brute force with windows down  and slight pulling on upper door so that the frame was a snug fit to the gutter,  to test i got me son to sit outside with a hose until no water ingress was visible.
Time consumming it was but after a tweak here and there both strips/doors became water tight,  i then noticed a steady pool gathering on drivers front well,  upon inspection of drivers door seal i noticed that in  lower lip mid section were seal conjoins the lip was rotten and not making a complete seal,  after a bit of fabrication from a scrap bit of tin and some pop rivets it was easily retified so that a water tight seal was made.
Again i tested thorougly with a garden hose a high pressure and was pleased with the outcome of 100% water tightness.

Interior refitted etc etc and car driven for a few days until the next monsoon,  this time i had parked my car with the Nearside wheels on the kerb and car at an angle, it rained that night & much to my dismay it also leaked.

I sourced the leak to above the pedal box but was lost as to were it was coming in, i got totally F***ed off at this stage and ripped out scuttle tray, wiper assembley, ECU and all cables,  i then got transparent kitched sealant and a paint brush and covered every visible grommet on the bulkhead, i also used sealant when putting the cables back in,  everything was reassembled and selant left to cure for 24 hours.
Again i got my poor son to blast the front screen and surrounding scuttle tray with a hose for nearly 1 hour
and happily have 0 leaks, nil nought nothing.

I know this is long winded but only 1 members experience of water ingress

so let me get this right. for pedal box leak, i need to seal off all grommets on the bulkhead? ive got a large leak on my passanger footwell but i cant source it. im pretty sure its coming in from the wheel arch somewere.

would agree sealing grommets in bulkhead, as for NS leak  check door seal and sill for water ingress

if your leaking thru the wheel arch you need to rip EVERYTHING out and start welding

quite common for the inner wing to rust right up in the corner near the windscreen, this could be your problem :(

I have this problem just now...:(:(:(:(:(:(

Both sides....Can this be welded easily enough or is it more hassle than its worth and so time to sell it on?

Have been trying to fix leaks on the car for over a week. A sieve is more water tight than my car just now
