Been looking at the red stripe. Love it on my ED30.
But been thinking of other colours too, like maybe lime green?
Could definitely see green stripe on a black GTi. Would look nicer on a white GTi!

Im not saying dont do it, it does look ok but imho the red stripe is one of the detaial's that make's it recognizable as a GTI as well as the monza's and the red is

no my cup of tea :undecided: - the red makes the car look mean

....I couldn't agree more. Each to their own, BUT!! the Red Stripe is one of the GTI features which pays homage to the long and successful history of this iconic car. To me, it's sacrilege to change it. It's the sort of thing which most Americans don't begin to understand. But, it's your car and you should do absolutely what gives you pleasure

totally agree with RR here, in addition the golfball gearknob & interlagos seats!!

I spotted a black GTI the other day with the red stripe painted white. It looked really clean cut, but not very aggressive. That said, his interior was a black-white motif as well, so it all matched up and looked good overall.

....Agreed that such mods can look very cool, but I guess I'm more traditional in my views about the GTI. I was around when Jesus Christ had his moment on the hill (words quoted from "Sympathy For The Devil" by The Rolling Stones) - In other words, I had been driving for over 10 years when the Mk1 GTI was launched.
There's a well established tradition in modding GTI's but Respect to its ancestors.

I thought about this the other day, I think on some colours a different colour can look ok - blue on white for example, then blue calipers to match - not sure about green though :undecided:
The red stripe was what let the Mk4 down - not having anything!
-
DONT DO IT!
Red strip on black GTI looks the bizz!!
Plus its about heritage!
Red calipers + smoked red rear lights + red lipstick on grill + Black VW badge = GTI theme
-
I considere'd a white stripe for a while after seeing this.

Nice wheel's for you there Cookiemonster aswel

Lol I know about the heritage of the GTi, but was just thinking about (cheap) potential mods. I like the thought of white GTi with green stripe + green calipers + maybe green neons! Looks sweet in my head.
What about a red stripe that lit up? Like Knight Rider?*
Not too sure about the CF/black VW badges though - I like my chrome.
(I know it's illegal to use a red light on the front of the car whilst it's in use but there's nothing against it for shows etc).

....Black VW badges were on the Mk1 & 2's (see pic I posted earlier in this thread).

Some not so good night time pics. The red sticks out a mile away. Its almost illuminated!

Sorry, but it's RED RED RED all the way for me.
There are some things you should do and others you shouldn't.
It's a GTI after all, not a 1.4 lookalike

Please don't.
Is this a piss take?

He is only a young lad and spent every penny getting the car of his dream's. He is just looking for cheap mod's and thinking out loud.

What he said.
Though not sure if 26 qualifies as being young.
Still, I want to mod the car and at the same time, I want to leave it because I think it looks gorgeous as stock.
I'm still recovering from the huge hole in my wallet and am saving up for bigger things like RNS510/similar, better speakers + amp, parking camera, cruise control etc.
Just throwing around ideas. I like some mods but hate others, like CF
Would never stick neons under my car, but don't think it's a horrible thing to do if done well. As for the red stripe - I grew up with Knight Rider and now I have a black car with a red stripe at the front. The first thing I'm gonna think of (and did) was a red light. TBH I did think of buying a mk4 (before I realised the beauty and tech of a mk5 and the fact that I had the financial backing to buy one), modding it with tints all round, custom/modified dashboard, overhead readouts and various switches.
I love the ED30 too much to start drilling holes and stuff, so all mods done by me are gonna be simple ones.

imo the front grill should stay with the red stripe as said its what was on the mk1 and mk2
