I was thinking of getting some BBS RR alloys for my golf and was wondering if there is much of a difference between 17" alloys and 18" ones? I know that 18" ones will have a rougher ride, but is it noticeable worse? How is the handling effected?
Thanks

I have recently changed from the standard 17" GTI wheels to the 18" pescara's and not noticed any change in handling at all.
I,m sure others will be more technical in their answers..

Sorry, couldn't resist
On a serious note I doubt you would notice the difference 'that' much from 17 to 18, less tyre wall roll as they will have lower profile rubber giving slightly better handling but mildly harder ride. Nothing to worry about, just get 19's ...

in the real world i doubt you will tell the difference

*Cough* sorry, but didn't the GTI with 17"s on lap 2.5 seconds a lap faster than the same car with 18"s on, in the Evo tyre test?
18's look better, period. But 17's get kerbed less (more tyre sidewall), make the car handle better as it was designed to run on 17's, weigh less and accelerate a teeny bit better.
Also no white worm on the 17's, they cost less and are easier to get hold of. I chose them after finding the ride on a GTI with 18's on a little harsher than the 17's. Well happy with mine. Looks aren't everything

I have the 17's aswell, they look good enough and tyres cost enough in 17" form never mind 18" !

You ought to try budgeting for these puppies:

And being as its a <cough> Torsen <cough> quattro, all four need replacing in one go!
And as for those anchors, £300 ish for a set of pads, and over £2k for each disc!
-
....^Ouch!! Expensive!! But awesome.
Thank goodness I'm generally not heavy on brake use - Only on spirited stints when circumstances allow and if I'm in the mood (whenever safely possible!).

2K for each disk????
Im starting to think it would be cheaper to just drive into the wall!!!

"Rear Engined" Veyron you mean
Is the one used in the Veyron the same model as used in R32, I dont think so... :smug:
We've already done this in another thread buddy !
In fact to quote from TT's post
"Oh dear. What part of "engineering" dont you understand. Just because Haldex is use in the Veyron, it categorically does NOT mean that Haldex is the "best" system. The Veyron using Haldex is simply down to engineering "limitations" - using your logic, why havn't Audi used Haldex in the RS4, the S6, the RS6, the S8? Simple, because the Torsen is the best product for the engineering applications of those cars. The fact that Torsen is such a perfect 4wd method means that Audi do NOT need to re-engineer said cars - because you can be absolutely certain, that if the Haldex was better than the Torsen, then Audi would have re-engineered them! "

Yeah, but the discs are supposed to last 5 times longer than iron discs - upto 150k miles. We'll see, but its looking good at the mo. 10k on the clock, and the pads are about 60-70% worn (which is fine by my standards), and there is absolutely ZERO wear on the discs. I've recently checked them with a micrometer and a DTI, and am well impressed with just how robust the ceramic discs are. I reckon they will live up to the "five-times" life - especially compared to my last S4 - all they need to do is last past 40k miles and they'll have done so!
Im starting to think it would be cheaper to just drive into the wall!!!
Eeek - not liking your way of thinking! Were you a crash test dummy in a previous life?

Me too. Those Pirelli P-Zero Rossos were abso fookin lutely SHYTE. Dangerous actually. Complete aquaplaning with 6mm of tread, at 40mph - really, really fcukin lethal tyres. Very weak carcass means you fight the steering wheel every time you hit a white centre line or a bit of overbanding. And other RS owners have complained of massive holes in the sidewalls after hiting a pot hole. There was a big thread on Tyresmoke. Not one RS owner has ever used Pirellis on replacement - the most popular RS tyre is the PS2, with the F1 Eagles and ContiSportContact3s being the next preferred boots.
The Pirellis were so useless, they only lasted 4k miles!

Ding, ding - round two!
