Thought i'd give the Golf a run up the strip today and see that it lost it's 1/4 mile virginity..
Anyway, after 3 years of the 13's being a finger tip away in the LCR, I thought i'd see what the Vee Dub would do..
3 runs.. In full road trim, no seats removed etc
1st run 13.50 @ 107.01mph
2nd run 13.44 @ 107.01mph
3rd run 13.26 @ 106.60mph
So they've well and truely being cracked now.. Only problem now is, once I run it with the back seats out and a few more miles on clock (3k at min), 12's are going to be dangerous close and can see me having the same problem again..
But am very pleased with the results, have to say..
-
fook me thats going some
love the vid from your other thread too
-
nice work! :D
at the risk of having the same sutff said... what have you done to yours again? REVO and? what tyres too?

Just Revo stage 1 and full Milltek, everything else standard, including the michelins  (apart from the wheels of course..)
-
mmmm, i think i want a revo
-
You know it makes sense mate.. Seriously though, can't recommend them enough.. Been spot on on both the Golf and the LCR..
-
Its nice to prove the others wrong in a nice way, happy for you mate. The Golf is doing well proving its a hot hatch!
I've always been happy with Revo which is why I went back also.
-
Cheers mate..
It was always going to do 13's in my opinion, just didn't think it'd be that good..
-
Very consistent  Nice work VTEC!
-
woosh, good times there Ben.
-
Brilliant 1/4mile times with good terminal speeds to top them off
Some of the £100k+ super cars wont even crack a low 13s 1/4mile.
Look like I will be saving for a ED30 to play with.

Bloody hell!!!
That is fast.
Did you use the LC function?
What were your 60' times?
Those times are getting into garrett turbo territory - good, dependable ED30 KO4's eh :smug:
-
Just done the calculation Ben
0-60 around 5.1 seconds
0-100mph around 11.6 seconds
To put that into perspective for some of you out there that is in the same ballpark 0-100 times as:-
Mitsubishi EVO MKVI Sprint at 11.8 secs
TVR Griffith 500 at 11.2 seconds
Aston Martin V8 Vantage at 12 seconds
BMW M3 CSL(E46) at 12 seconds
Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34) at 12.5 seconds
Porsche Cayman S at 12.2 seconds
Porsche Carrera 996 at 11.5 seconds
Ferrari 456M GT at 11.6 seconds
I think we've just invented another category - The Hyper Hot Hatch
-
You know what? I need a turbo.

Do it! Do it! Do it!

Holy Cow, well done vtec, either you have an incrediblily fast car, or Hurdys ed30 was very sick on the last pod run, i know he only had 3mm of tread, and a FAT lady stuck to his bonnet, struggling for traction, but thats still blistering!.What was the track temperature???. your right, i timed vtecs 50 to 100mph in 5.5secs from his video, so you calculations are correct.Did u use launch control aswell vtec?
-
Cheers for all the comments chaps..
I will put a pic of my slip up later when I get chance, but these were the details of my 13.2 run...
60ft = 2.2968
330ft = 5.8765
1/8 ET = 8.7322
1/8 MPH = 86.27
1000' = 11.1200
1/4 ET = 13.2660
1/4 MPH = 106.60
Used TC on all three runs (never used it before mind). I was trying to work out my 0-100 last night actually and got around the same figs Hurdy..
Don't think yours will struggle to match that now mate, just don't think that was a strong map on yours to start with mate.. Sounds like it is now though..

Don't know what the track temp was mate, but it was about 15oC there yesterday, so good conditions.. Still struggled with traction a bit though..

so thats without a dog bone insert to stop any engine hop.
I am going to see what r/r figures i get before i think about investing in a milltek tbe, or maybe the APR tbe.
its odd to me your lowest term speed is your best time showing its all in the launch.

Ditto

wheres the video footage??????????????

Yeah, but that could be down to anything really.. Plus it's only 0.4mph, we'll just call it 13.2 @ 107 anyway..
No dog bone insert, no. Didn't get any engine hop at all really, just spun quite a bit all the way through first pretty much. I am going to try Conti's on the fronts when they are worn, as I had them on my LCR and they transformed it in regards to grip. But with 320 bhp and FWD, i'm always going to struggle a bit..
As I say though, 12's is my next target and i'm pretty confident i'll get there too.. Not bad for a family hatchback eh.. Love these cars!

wheres the video footage??????????????
Not sure when that'll be up, as it was filmed off one of my mates friends camera and it was my second run he got (13.4, he missed the 3rd run , as was in the queue).
But he said he's going to email me it, or put it on You Tube..

A better "hook" at the start of the run can give a better 1/4 time, but a lower terminal speed

I can always start trailing different things at other Pod visits, like lower the PSI in fronts and strip back seats out etc. But just wanted a 'road trim' figure to go off first..
Hurdy, did you try and warm your tyres up before you run? Bit tricky with DSG.. I know you're tyres were fooked though. But I think with a good burnout to warm the front will help with the launch (did in the LCR anyway), just not easy with DSG..
Is the Launch control misuse/warranty void thing a myth, or true? I will never bother with it on the road, but at Pod it's a must I think, but don't want to take the piss with it..

It is harder to get a burnout with DSG, but not impossible. There wasn't much point in a burnout for me as it would have only made bad tyres worse.
The LC warranty is a myth, the VW booklets even mention LC, but do not mention any limitations as to use, so VW would be on dodgy ground advertising something as a feature of the car and then trying to limit the use without putting it in the book. The original story was that if you used it more than twice it would invalidate the warranty, but how can you limit something that is a feature?
One tip I've recently found is that you get much better grip from launch with coilovers set at their hardest damping on the rears. Every little helps.
At Bruntingthorpe the 1/4 mile isn't as grippy as Santa Pod is and so you can expect to lose between 0.1 and 0.2 seconds through the 1/4 mile time. Having said that I'll join you in hanging myself if I don't get a sub 14 second pass next time out.
