Title: whats high mileage?
Post by: LaserBlue on 06 May 2008, 17:39
whats your mileage>?

mines a 55 plate and has just under 16k

ive seen a few dsg GTIs with 30k on the clock that are very tasty but ive never got a car with over 20k

lower mileage will have better resale value?

show less signs of wear and tear?

06 plate and up GTIs have updated things to them?

Average miles per year is around 15k miles nowadays so work it out on that.

Lower mileage cars can be worth a little more but when its too low you wont get that much more if you know what I mean.  When I was buying the 25th Anniversary I paid just under £9k for a 5 year old car with 58k on it which I though was pretty good (being a TDI), one guy had one for sale for £11k because it only had 36k miles - basically he was dreaming as it didnt make the car worth that much more.

I used to have some high mileage company cars and if maintained well they can be just as if not more reliable than lower mileage cars.

It is easy to rack up the miles in the Mk5, I just prefer using it and they soon add up!

Glad mines a lease car. Done 35k in 9 months. Should be a good buy for someone when the company get rid at 70k. Alot of motorway mileage with relatively little spirited driving compared to total mileage, plus virtually no short journeys.

Mine was on 28k and 3 years old so less than 10k a year which I was pretty chuffed with.

with relatively little spirited driving compared to total mileage, plus virtually no short journeys.

Its all well and good saying that but you will need proof wouldn't you?

Hehe I just clean it, and give it the occasional "blast"! The poor things days are spent with the missus going to work and back, which is never that far away when you live on a 6 mile by 9 mile island!

Off to the south of France soon, so expect a full write up with pic's of the Millau suspension bridge.

I know a guy who's really good at signatures who may be able to photoshop your car there if I supply some decent pic's?

Cant wait to get on the French motorway and see what the GTI will do! Got my little TomTom ready, only one month to go.....

You can also under use them...
like phil's last car... 2years and 1250miles wasn't it?

that means it's not been "shaken down" and my still exhibit warranty faults which would then occur outside the 3yr warranty etc.
Things like tyres etc shouldn't be stood for too long without moving etc.
Or 1250 miles in 2yrs may mean lots of 5minute trips where the engine has barely any chance to warm up... and they that most of the engine wear occurs in the first 10minutes of each journey.

It's a car ffs... use it ;)

Car was 13 months old (not 2 years), stood for 10 months doing nothing .

Each to their own really, I bought a car with higher mileage than I really wanted but it had all the toys and there were no others about - always a little give and take I suppose.

Just thinking were saying 'high' although the mileage we are talking for a mass produced VAG engine is not that much at all.
