if I was you I would go for the 08 model year combined sharks fin and ariel, VW must of changed it for a reason and I think its because radio reception is not as good with just a sharks fin.

I fitted a shark fin the day I got my car...
I ordered it from ebay - and had to chop the connector off the original and solder it onto the new one.
FM works perfectly - but I get NO AM whatsoever.
If I hadnt cut the original off I would swap them back.  The fin looks better, but I miss AM for the footy

Looks like something the missis would use with batteries :lipsrsealed:

Although I reckon she would keep sliding off the roof

Seriously, I wish that VW would go back to having the internal aerial as the roof one does nothing for the line of the car

yeh, that why i want to reduce it, i already have a stubby one on the way, but thought a colour coded shark fin may look ok too

No problem at all with factory fitted OEM aerial - FM and MW

I fitted an aftermarket RNS510... thought about adding the sharkfin but decided that it would make it even more obvious to thieves that there's a sat nav onboard.
It's not that VW sat navs aren't stolen enough already..

Yes - factory fitment with MFD2 etc. Same as image in neg's post. Like this personally and it works just fine. I believe the current sharks fin/bee sting combo is more aesthetic than functional. VW need to update models to sell new cars etc.

Been trying to post back on this site for over an hour - WTF

I have the OEM Sharkfin (I had the factory fit RNS510) and the radio reception is FANTASTIC, I get CapitalFM a good 60miles away from it's mast and I've not got it in any other cars this far out.

I'll post a pic in 2secs...

....My 06-build came with a standard 'bee-sting' aerial but it kept fouling on my up-n-over garage door so I swopped it for a Richbrook.

Some of the sharkfins look really cool imo

I've never quite understood them tbh RR :( The base is black, so why stick a stainless steel aerial on it? It doesn't match very well.

I had to remove my 'Sharan type' stubby as it wasn't picking up Traffic Info via my Kenwood DNX 7200 (Garmin)

I refitted the standard aerial and bingo - full coverage

PM me if you'd like it :) (Free of course!)

Yeah the silver one was starting to look a bit weather worn.

This new black one seems to work fine and I can still get traffic recetion on my DNX 7200 as well as the radio channels I have tuned into originally

It's about 5" long with a bobble on the end...ooerr!
