After a day of cleaning my car went for a little spirited drive, which got me thinking how are VW going to improve the current GTi with the mk6 model?
Can they make a prettier, quicker or more fun hatchback than the mk5?

It's a hard act to follow and I have a horrible feeling the MKVI will be a huge let down.

I hope its a complete stinker, that way our MK5's will retain their values better
-
if they made it look the exact same but took all the little faults and gave it an ed30 engine as standard then it may be improved!!!
-
1. Proper Sat Nav with full post code search and speed camera database
2. Redesign the tailgate so the water doesn't pish in when you open it
3. Brake disc hubs which don't rust
That's about it I think

petrol cap holder!!!!!so we dont have to stand there, filling our car up whilst holding the cap!!
-
Make it free of rattles.
-
educate the sales people so they actually know waht a GTi is and what it stands for!!!

The petrol cap has got a lip on it that slots onto the fuel cap cover (bit that flips out) for people that dont want to stand there holding the cap

This lot won't do that, it might scratch their paintwork!

u mean on the inside or does it clip ontop of the flap, because a remember a thread about this a while ago and nobody else seemed to know what to do??!!

It just sort of slots over the top of the bit that flips out. Hard to explain on here, give it a try next time you fill up.

I'd give it 4WD, bigger brakes, adjustable suspension, and a 300bhp 5 cylinder engine that sounds like a U R Quattro, but does 40mpg and has lower emissions than a 1.4 diesel

You forgot Carbon Fibre body panels, engine cover and interior trim

Ooops, you're right :embarassed: and don't forget Audi style DRL's

Actually, I meant to ask about your CF bonnet - How does it stand up to stone chips and what happens if the surface gets penetrated by one?
-
The surface has a deeper coat of resin over the top and (so I've read) is capable of taking a 130lb mass on it without harming it, so it would have to be a pretty big stone. I do, however take your point, if the bonnets coating was ruptured then it would take the form of a star-shaped crack and some CF bonnets can suffer from "atmospheric creep" whereby air and water penetrates and dulls the effect . I drive as I always did and so will have to see if something does hit it :undecided: The coating is much stronger than any laquer or paint though.

If all that was added, the cost would be pushed up past the £22-£24k barrier for just a standard spec Golf.
-
Less body roll
-
A quicker first gear pickup at junctions with DSG - only current options seem to be 'diesel' (when you wait for something to happen) or 'tyre squeal' :embarassed:
-
Greater agility and a LSD.
-
I reckon it'll have a similar chassis to the Mk5 but with updated shocks, brakes and arb's.
With the powerplant from the Ed30 as standard, maybe a bit more powerful so it doesn't look like they're going backwards performance wise.
Oh and optional 4wd I read somewhere

Nice photo there Batch.
Better stereo as standard in the GTI. My MKivs Gamma sounded better. Lesser models had the beta? The touch screen SHOULD be standard.
-
It took VW almost 25yrs to perfect the GTI and return the MK5 GTI to the "original".
I dont think they can top that just yet. I have a horrible feeling the MK6 GTI will not be that good and will be basically a car that borrows parts from other cars leaving itself with no real identity.
-
Probably will end up like like the new Civic type R "Not as good as the previous"
-
I would:-
change the boot latch
improve the auto wipers
make the inside like the S3
no more optional extras (everthing as standard)
ship with spare tyres for both s/w
-
interior dash of the mk4
number the beasts like the mk4 Anni
stereo upgrade as standard above gti / gt
bigger brakes than the gti
an options list that lets you modify i.e maps, big brake set ups etc..
Not really fussed what the mk6 looks like or goes like as more than happy with my ed30, well almost lol, you have to mod dont you
-
maybe not an improvement but i've got a feeling the next gti is going to have a 1.6 twincharger engine in it to meet emmisions targets and get a better mpg.
200 bhp but rough as old arses

Bigger brakes. The Cupra has the R32/S3 front disks and the GTI rear disk set-up

I'd have thought the ED30's 240bhp would be what they'll start at. Probably with a smaller lump and heavily forced induction to reduce emissions, as Duffy said.
Reckon a 200bhp diesel will appear somewhere in the range to compete with BMW.
