As above really, met Hurdy yesterday at Awesome havin his new exhaust and another few bits done, so how is it pal?
-
yeah hurdy, how is it!
-
Same as the name of the guys who fitted it.....AWESOME
Gave it a full belt over the Snake pass and it sounds really sweet. There is no heavy droning at motorway speeds as I thought there may be (I came back on the M60/M67 as well). No rattles, squeaks etc and gives a good beep burble at idle. Very pleased indeed. The Forge DV is a little louder than stock, but again not annoyingly so as it is still a recirculating one
Overall it gets a REDROBIN five smiles out of five from me
-
....Great!! Am well pleased for you, Hurdy!
You'll love the Milltek but do be prepared to very likely go through a stage where it may drone before it matures further.
:nerd: Is it a Cat-back or Turbo-back (HiFlow+Downpipe)?
:nerd: Resonated or Non-Resonated?

Turbo-back and resonated
-
Miltek systems really are top drawer
Snake Pass is a beast of a road!
Quite a few police round it though I think :undecided:
-
Turbo-back and resonated
....As you doubtless already know, the Turbo-back will be more efficient and deliver more from your remap.
Non-Res is only slightly louder than Resonated

Not at 8 - 8.30pm
Saturday and Sunday you tend to find them lurking in one of the truck layby's.
-
video clip of zorst ? :hide:
u made me want to get the DV now, just for peice of mind and the air noise being a tad louder...

....The 'tad louder' is hardly noticeable, at least with a Non-Resonated xzorst soundtrack.

I'll do one tomorrow. I'm sure the missis won't mind pressing the accellerator pedal a few times
The combo of the Milltek, Carbonio and Forge DV is lovely. :smug:
I've got a good deal on some TAROX 10 pots with F2000 discs and Corsa+ pads and so this is my next mod (unless the OSIR stuff arrives first :undecided:) . Then I think I'll be going for either Bilstein PSS9's or KW V3's.
The Tarox's were due to go on the car on Monday, but when they took it for a test drive, one of the calipers wasn't working correctly and so will have to go back to Tarox in Italy
-
What about performance Hurdy, what's your butt dyno say??
-
10 pots  Is that not over kill? lol.Are you planing on a lot of track time?
if your interested the S3 intercooler is £302 inc vat and 2 pipes.
-
how much have you spent on the GTI on modding etc since you it?

I think he told me it was roughly in the region of about 40 quid :undecided:

Hmm, American top bods from Apr were at Awesome on Monday and said that in the climate we are in there isn't much point in going for the intercooler until you go for stage 3
-
how much have you spent on the GTI on modding etc since you it?
A lot  and still need to spend a lot more
Once it is finished though it will be worth it
-
....I could have told you that last year, but it sounds much more authoritative coming from APR top bods
Forge told me the same last year. Overkill. The standard FMIC is exceptionally good and the result of VW making sure they didn't repeat the apparent limitations of the Mk4.

You can definitely feel a difference in the immediacy of the throttle response and top end shove
As Gazbutmkv said "It's like taking a jammed spud out of the back of your exhaust"

Nice 1 Hurdy, good to put a face to a name.
That trip to Awesome is gonna cost me 2, after chatting to the APR guys and Jim regarding their uprated rail fuel pump, they think this is the next step in releasing more power, Dean phoned me yesterday to see if they could borrow my car for a few hours and try a new pump and software upgrade to suit and see what results the ED30 gives. So their doin that right now will be interesting to see the results.
there is another plus side I get to borrow their DSG demo car with 300+bhp, Tarox 12 pots, KW3's and all the other goodies for a couple of days

Mine's going in to Gaz for the APR boys to have a play with, they are developing a new stage 2 map which will be going on my car along with a full milltek
-
You havin fuel pump to I take it?

That sounds just great...just great....You are going to cost me more money aren't you
Here I was, happy with my new exhaust and then you come along and tell me this
Honestly though, you will HAVE to let me know what your car feels like if you choose to keep the new fuel rail pump on and what you think of Awesome's demo car too. It could be expensive for you too - feeling what those 12 pots are like on Awesomes car
The rolling road day is going to prove interesting as I am now booked on it too
-
....Surely the only justification for 12-pots is if you do lots of trackdays? Otherwise, isn't it huge overkill?
Don't forget that Awesome's car is both a test-bed and rolling advertisement for them and the products they sell. How often does their car get changed? - Fairly often. I think very highly of Awesome by the way (in case someone misinterprets my post).
-

Hadn't planned on it, Dean did mention something about it but not sure what is happening yet. They are yet to call me and tell me what they plan to do with the map but last time we spoke it was Stage 2, not sure if fuel pump is a necessity with this however?
-

....I'm fairly sure that an aftermarket fuel pump is only needed for Stage3 but, of course, Awesome will be able to advise better. It will definitely be dependent on your remap's instructions about fuelling.
-
i read all this and thing, frontwheel driveeeeeeeee.... surely being fwd means cornerin is always going to understeer? seamslike you lot are spending a lot.

....Even if understeer can be controlled (the GTI chassis is excellent), loads of neddies at the front wheels is bound to have adverse traction/grip effects. That's why I'm very happy to stay at Stage1 (GTI, not Ed30) for fast and practical road driveability.

Speaking to the APR boffins yesterday, the fuel pump is going to form part of the stage 2 package along with TBE and possibly intercooler, the're not sure if its going to required for our climate as the standard one is pretty good.
They have a 54 plate regular GTi with K04 turbo bolted on(same as ED30) and its makin 340bhp with the fuel pump, map and exhaust.
As redrobin says Awesomes car is a rolling advert so alot of the bits are overkill, espcially the Lambo doors, although I know the mk5 regularly sees track action.
I should have more details later regarding the fuel pump etc., and will post details and maybe a mini review of their demo car, but I will say it goes like stink.
-
this is all good stuff , which brings up my question ...
Re : APR Stage 2 +
I still dont quite understand why the std GTI's have fuel cut issues at stage2+ at lower rpm and NEED a fuel pump.
Whereas the ED30 's run fine at 300bhp with bigger injectors (S3) but the same rail pump?
I would have expected the Ed30 to have the same issue.
For me Stage2 APR + Milltek is a calling......
Popped into Awesome myself on Saturday for a look too
Re : Intercooler
The comments kinda go against the other info Ive seen
It also doesnt explain why the S3 has a larger IC with 265bhp? I dont see why Audi would build in this much headroom in an IC as if its not needed , it only serves to increase lag
But hey , if I dont need a twincooler or S3 IC then fab
maybe for another thread but for ED30 I though the first 'weakpoint' in terms of power was the I/C
-
what's 12-pot? :embarassed:
How much power is enough people??? :lipsrsealed: It is FWD, don't forget!
-

....12-pot refers to the number of hydraulically activated pistons within the brake caliper. My AP Racing kit has 4 and is proven to be more than adequate for fast road use. I've forgotten how many the standard GTI brake has - 3 ?? The theory is that the more even the braking pressure on the disc is, the better.
I reckon that around 280 bhp on FWD is plenty enough if you want to preserve road driveability. Just my opinion.
-
300bhp and better suspension and brakes over standard is what I will be happy with
I must say though it is the crispness of the throttle response since I've had all the parts fitted that really enthuses me  It is more like having a large CC N/A engine now ...err...without the V6/V8 soundtrack though . The Milltek sounds great though. Enjoy

I asked this myself, they seem to think VW made some changes regarding software and the fuelling issues, which is why no probs with remapped ED30's.
I understand your questions regarding the S3's larger intercooler and would suggest again its down to the S3 having to run in much warmer climates than ours aswell. They still really aren't sure weather a larger 1 is needed for ED30 stage 2 and its something their still working on, personally although its expensive I'd like 1 just for peace of mind.
Dean from Awesome just rang and they want to keep my car a bit longer as they have found some interesting stuff and finding good gains, apparantly there are a few differences between the ED30 and S3 engines, compression ratio for 1, and they want to play some more.
Its a real shame looks like I'll have to keep their demo car a bit longer
-
Hmm..sounds like you will be spending some money then
-
cheers Gaz , I'm very close to getting the remap when I can get time off work. may just jump to Stage 2
Surprised you say the compression ratio is diff S3 vs ED30 , as I though they were identical engine wise only diff was IC and boost levels!
why you answering forum questions when you should be driving the demo  hard life
-
Hurdy, have you softened the suspension on your car?
Seemed to be a lot of movement when you got in it in the vid!
-

Eye spy with my little eye.... is that an illegal plate Hurdy????

I Thought about it as J10N HU would be better, but I just bought the plates from my nearest standard supplier

Just seen the new lights Hurdy on your link looking

Me to, I thought only I/C was different, but apparantly not will find out more when I pick it up.
Was answering from work which can't be avoided if u want to pay for your mods, had a little play on way home though.

Welcome to the Full TBE Milltek Club!
The turbo defo spools quicker with the exhaust on. The fuel rail, S3 cooler and stage 2 map will make the 340bhp mentioned above.
Stage 3 is gonna be a bigger turbo.
