why did they? atleast on the edition 30... i.e the ren 197 has brembos and the cupra has them too... this car is mroe powerful and doesnt... is there a reason for this?
-
Its Vag group buddy the Seat Leon Cupra mk2 has the R32 brakes, and they are plent good too imo.Its what i am replacing my oem set up with but i think VW should have an option with them to spec bigger brakes.
-
the ed30 brakes must be quite bad because I dont think the R32's are that great but nobody has really complained about them. Quite a few of you seem to have brought this up...
-
costs as ever , bit like using the same wheels (18inchc BBS ch) already seen on audis.
Porsche BBK in Awesome is very temtping , fancy yellow to go with black car (rear calipers to be painted to match )
but yes the std brakes are 'nearly adequate' std , remap and def not .....
-
i think the breaks work ok, but then i dont knwo what better breaks would feel like. anyway. its the fact that all these cheaper cars have better breaks then this? wtf
-
If they had just matched the R32/Seat Cupra then all would have been fine. As it is I will be upgrading as I've found them wanting on more than one occasion.
-
I had the 3.2 Audi, and felt a lot more confident slowing from high speeds than I do now in my standard GTI.
I've had all sorts of hot hatch material in the past and this is the first time I've ever considered uprating the brakes.
-
upgrading the breaks, fine, but we should have to, its not like we skimped on the cash for the whole car. i could have paid 17 or something for the 197 or cupra and had better breaks.. heck, i bet the corsa vxr has better breaks. i feel scammed. lol

Yes but then you would have had a Renault  or a Vauxhall

I'm sure that I have read one review that said that the brakes were not up to much on the new Cupra and were prone fading due to poor cooling. Seat had problems getting the cooling right.
-
I took my ed30 down 1/4 mile then a mk2 Cupra and you can tell a diff straight away, so am going to get them with some braided hoses, could get the ate or such the like kits but the R32 will do the job fine
-
The problem with the brakes on the Cupra was when it had Brembo's in pre-production, which is why when it was released they dropped the Brembo's.
-
Brembo's are back on, £1450 as an option with Seat.
-
Really... sounds quite pricey.
-
least they get the option!
-
....£1,450 not so pricey when you consider the AP Racing Big Brake Kit is about £1,700 just for fronts - Worth it though!!
The standard GTI brakes are okay but the pedal response and feel doesn't compare to say the AP's, and neither does the stopping power - From any speed you care to be driving at!! It's not that the stock brakes aren't good but just that some of the alternatives are so much better. But it's all down to cost of course.

In the 2 months i've owned my car i've found the limits of the standard brakes on more than one occasion
Before i bought the car i was aware of some of the complaints about the standard brakes but considering how good the rest of the car is i wasn't put off. Having now expericened it my self i would say it is the only real achilles heal the car has ( or at least that i've found so far) for me there is more than enough power, it's the lack of ability the brakes have to cope with sustained use which spoils the fun imho.
It is rather annoying considering it's a GTi and "spirited" B road use is supposed to be what it's good at but i appreciate that VW have to consider a lot of things when it comes to spec'ing a car and not everyone will find the need for big brakes but it would have been nice of them to at least offer it as an upgrade.
I originally intended to leave my car completely standard, bar the stereo, but i'm going to have to do something about the brakes.
When i've got the spare cash i'm pretty certain im going to go for the AP Brake Kit. As a stop gap i've got a set of Mintex 1155 pads to try and see if they make any noticable difference. I know a lot of it is probably to do with the design of the caliper and rubber hoses but the standard pads are cooked so they need changed anyway and i've got a good supplier of Mintex stuff

In the 2 months i've owned my car i've found the limits of the standard brakes on more than one occasion
....At the time AP made their very generous offer to me, I felt I didn't need to upgrade the brakes, but then a few months later I also experienced a couple of 'moments' with the standard brakes and then decided to ask if their offer still stood. No regrets whatsoever - The AP's give great confidence.
When I first had them I found I was stopping waaaaaaaay too short before roundabouts etc - It was almost embarrassing!! I've yet to experience a skid since the AP's - They are very progressive (and don't tend to fade).
-
My opinion on the brakes are:- fast blast and they start to fade and should be better,if you have been pottering about,ie quick blasts then time to cool, they are not to bad. I think that if you can afford it,and like Red Robin has mentioned about quality 4pot calipers,do it,but for me,try goodridge or Hel braided hoses,a decent set of fast road pads, and a change to quality Dot 4 brake fluid, you might be suprised and save yourself a few quid.
I travelled over fast roads to Aberdeen for 3 years in a 172 Cup and had the joy of having fun with the Squaddies returning back to Allendale army camp and that car was amazing, then i fitted all 3 mods mentioned as well as Mich Exalto 2's,and swear that car felt like it was on F***ing rails!!!!
Shop around,a few tools needed,and fit yourself,piece of p*ss.
P.s :- make sure you dont put copperslip/antisqueal paste on the meaty side of the pads, like i seen a young mechanic do once,or you will need a new front end!!!!!
Chris.

Guess what I'm getting now!!!!!
Tarox 10 pots
Got a good deal I couldn't turn down
