whilst waiting for my calipers to dry i thought i'd check my oil/water as it seems to be using alot water. I have to top it up about once a week cos it goes from MAX to MIN in that time. When i checked my oil it had a load of mayo on the bottom of dipstick ...???....would this mean head gasket gone or going..??...should i get it booked into garage...??
-
yep it is oil and water in the engine not a good sign and thats defo not condensation
-
I redline my engine from cold, and allways driving like a nob. And i use no water or oil in the past 3 months.
SO i would say you need it checkin out to be honest
-
great.......coilovers gonna have to wait then.....

Might not be as bad as you think, but better to be safe than sorry. As i said, i use no oil and probably pound my engine more than you do :undecided:
-
my water level kept dropping and it turned out to be the water bottle lid, put a new lid on and it is now fine,
take the lid of the water bottle and give it a shake, if it rattles then its broken and you need a new one
-
got to admit, does sound like a cream crackered head gasket
-
gonna pop it in 2moro morning before i go back to work tuesday
-
mine doesnt use a drop of water uses a little bit of oil between oil changes but i guess its just down to wear and tear really

i agree, mines the same.

You can lose oil through wear and tear such as worn piston rings but certainly not lose water. The only way water can leave the system is from a leaking rad, leaking hose, knackered heater matrix or a dodgey header tank cap. If they're all fine then the only other way is for it to sneak past the head gasket

Have you checked where you park up for water on the drive, and where it comes out if there is any?

just got back from garage, he said to keep an eye on it over next few weeks. Had a small amount of steam coming from bottom of rad so could need replacing, also got a collapsed breather pipe. The one that's fecked isn't even the correct type, someones previous bodge job....anybody know the part number..???

I bought that rad and it turned up last week, a week after buying it! Still not got round to fitting it to the car but it does look a decent rad from opening the box and taking a quick look
-
easy job to fit..???.......does front end need to come off..??
-
grill, headlights, bumper and bumper support bar. Still an easy job though
-
good excuse to straighten my bumper and paint it then.......had a slight corner knock
-
Im only interested with an intercooler!
-
That's why i'm putting off putting my new rad on. Got a new intercooler and a Mocal 13 row oil cooler to go on at the same time ;)
-
intercooler, 13 row what....???...
-
13 row oil cooler... basically a rad for the oil and an intercooler which is a rad for inlet air. Required when you're adding forced induction ;)
