I fitted mine a couple of days ago, £100 is a great price if its new and the K&N's wont be any different to the Carbonio filter

....Carbonio come with a Pipercross filter which is better than a K&N and better than the stock paper filter but not as good as the ITG filter which costs nearly 60 squid but is the dog's.

I think you should for that price you cant refuse! I have found a slight improvement in sound and performance but nothing to go to town about, I expect more gains from it when I have mine remapped!

....More efficiency and therefore gains after a remap but not big gains and not easy to feel. Improved torque and sharper throttle response. Sound enhancements are negligable unfortunately but perhaps my Milltek overrides it.

nope only the one..

i would  like to hear a difference with the intake/filter. i assume its the filter panel that makes a change of sounnd and not the intake itsself..

RR what are ITG filters I never heard of them and why are they so good??

....I posted the following in another thread here:

I'd have to conduct quite scientific tests to tell you what any improvements are, and you know what the placebo effects are!

My Carbonio intake came with a PiperCross panel filter and someone I know with a Mk5 GTI, who is a highly qualified engineer and whose opinion I respect, told me ITG were the best. The ITG filter is certainly of very robust multilayered construction and fits the 'box' very tightly, so sealing is good - Better quality than the PiperCross which in turn is much better than the standard 'paper' panel. Extremely low maintenance was also a factor in my decision - No additional oiling is ever needed and just an occasional dust off. Also a lifetime warranty.

Don't forget that the VW standard filter gets thrown away and replaced every ?,000 miles when servicing - What does that tell you?

The ITG Pro-filter utilizes the same three layer reticulated polyester foam used on the MAXOGEN air filters. Unlike some of the competition, ITG filters have a massive dust load-up tolerance, which is the ability to absorb a large amount of dust without reducing air flow capacity. With the standard K03 turbo I wouldn't like to say that any performance gains are appreciable without proper scientific testing. However, the manufacturers claim about +2 bhp is possible.

It's also MAF-friendly! And probably more benefit to a remapped car.

If you plan on keeping your car, as I do, then it'll quickly pay for itself by not needing to replace it - 60 squid well spent imo.

no pipercross doesn't need oiling, there have been a few scare stories regarding oiled filters and them affecting the MAF, but not sure how much truth there is in it

I used K&N in my last GTi with no issues and I'm currently using the pipercross with the carbonio intake on the ED30 and I think its just sharpened the throttle response

No I cant see them invalidating the warranty for such a small mod and something that will help the car breathe! If they do you should think about finding another dealer

....I got my VW dealer to change the intake to a Carbonio and to change the filter to an ITG at a later service session. They did the work and so won't be saying "Tut-tut, I dunno who fitted this guv, but....". Cost me more than doing it myself but I got more piece of mind.

how much did they want to fit it?
Title: Re: Carbonio Intake Question :)

I dont see the point now in buying a Carbonio.I can see the science that improved air intake & cooling will help the car etc..
But an Ed30 made 315bhp with a map, catback milltek and carbonio intake fitted, the car had done 8k
my ed30 did 312.5bhp with a remap on 2k stock car running norm unleaded at the time(long story) now the minus few bhp could be down to my car being newish and not run in, cack fuel or the other car paying what? £600 for 2.5bhp not worth it imo.I am however going to take the OEM filter and replace with an aftermarket one to see if i get a sharper throt response.

....A 'ram' type of intake such as the Carbonio is never going to deliver a 'Wow!' factor in changed performance. You'll register improved throttle response. However, it will do your engine good by being much more efficient at delivering air. The whole shape and volume and consequently air pressure (I understand) is better than the convoluted stock intake.

If you want much more emphasised performance from an air intake try something like an EVOMS but you'll have to fit an aftermarket engine cover (or run with none at all) and the noise can be a bit raucous imo.

i want the OEM look, not something chavy which i think these achive. (atleast until there is some hard cor modding)
