Yea :embarassed: When I took my drive shaft off to change the gearbox i hit it with a hammer to get it out the hub, suddenly realising i wasn't using a copper hammer! Now I cant get the centre hub nut on, its damaged the thread!
Stupid mistake i know! Is there any way to fix this without geting a whole new outer CV joint/Driveshaft??? Please help  I Can't wait to see how she drives and every time I try to get it together somthing slows me down!

Find someone with a big tap& die set!
-
:undecided: I dont think i know any one who will have one that big!! Are the much to buy? I got a cheep small one for £3.00 totaly rubbish but it worked, i doubt they would make a BIG set that cheep!
-
cut 4 slots in the old nut, and pray
this will give you a poor mans die set, but you still have to persuade it to thread on...
-
Is it off the car? try taking it around a few engineering machine shops and get them to die it, it'll take them minutes if they have a die and will cost you zip.
-
Time to get flamed here for suggesting this - but it works on Helicopters
See if you have damaged the lead of the thread - if so get a small file set and recreate it .
Sounds gash but does work :embarassed:
-
doesnt sound gash at all!

nah - you'd just put the nut back on with the HAMMER instead
-
haha i will have to take the joint off! Do the CV joints just bang off the GTI like my 1.4? I will take it into work on monday and see what i can do, Im sure we have a large Tap and die lying arround! But might try the file method and file out a new thread, It wont effect the thread where the nut sits so should be fine!
Cheers!
-
haha iv tried the file method before and works a treat
-
forget the file just use an angle grinder and grind the bad bit its quicker than the file
-
now thats gash

haha iv tried the file method before and works a treat
but what on - golfs - choppers or planes
-
well either way I dont see the issue if its only the lead thread, not like that bit is going to be load bearing is it...
of course the rest of the thread should be checked if it is ok ;)
-
The rest is fine! im glad to say! I have mushroomed it a bit which is why it wont go on. I will have to reshape it by the looks of it :undecided: I will price up a new CV joint, if its not to much i will just put that on lol
