Whats the rate for replacing a cam chain on a mk3 vr6 engine.

I hear it needs doing over 60k.

Is this the same as the cam belt? But just a chain on the vr6 apozed to my 8v?

Post by: saul79 on 19 February 2008, 17:54: i've done 2 of em pretty straight forward ,the ones i did though the engines where already out .there normally dont need changing -but vr's are common for headgaskets around the 100k so changing the chains at this time saves a few bob .

Post by: saul79 on 19 February 2008, 19:31: just quicket to take it out really or you will be pissing about in the engine bay.trying to work at an angle ,i got the parts from ecp -but i also got bearings for crank and stuff came to about 230 for everything.you will be looking at roughly 160 quid for tensioners and quides and the 2 chains.

I like playing about with the basic mechanics but didnt fancy tackling mine - look to pay anywhere from Ã‚£200-Ã‚£500 labour depending on where you go. Also a good idea to check the clutch whilst the box is out...

Have a look over on vr6oc.com loads of info about the chains on there..

Just had the covers off and the guide/tentioner is worn soo bad and broken in 4 :shocked: suprised it ran
