awesome gaz
19's and slammed makes it look so much meaner than a std ed30

Gaz, tell me more about Eibach coilovers. How much is the drop?
I am thinking about Pro-System Plus, but the drop is only 10mm, don't know if that going to be visible at all.
Maybe I should take that pro-system plus with sportline springs instead (25mm drop).
Or just install coilovers?
What's the difference between coliovers and dampers+springs? Is coilover = damper+secondary spring(bump stop)?
Should I get a set of springs if I get coilovers?
Educate me, please!
P.S. Nice ride there!
-
Your car looks awesome Gaz,very very nice
Peskarik, coilovers are complete with dampers, springs together and adjustable in hight, sometimes in hardness like mine Koni coilovers
-
Damper and springs set comes with uprated dampers and springs that lower the car a fixed amount, coilovers also come with uprated dampers and springs but the platform that the spring sits on is adjustable so you can alter the ride height to just how you like it.
Think mines lowered by 25-30mm if I remember rightly, but the coilovers will lower up to 45mm although you'll get rubbing issues that low.
I tried the Eibach Pro-system on my last GTi and was never happy with it as it sat higher at the back and because the mk5 is wedge shaped it made it look daft IMO
Thanks for the kind words

Looks awesome mate! How do you find the drive with the suspension over stock?
-
It is a little harsher than standard but by no means uncomfortable, but there's virtually no body roll and fair does does it grip
-
Gaz do you find your car puts the power down better with the Eibach suspension.
-
Isnt your car ment to be yellow and carry parcels around???
nice reg plate!!
looks as good as the black ed 30 posted aswell
-
Lovely car Gaz
I love the drop on it.

Sorry to be abit off topic but Phil...in your sig pic is there a black van with heroes on it?? lol

Hard to say pal, the suspension was done before the remap, in the dry its mint just a bit of a squeal and its off no problem, in the wet is a different matter, the traction control has a busy time, sayin that it does on a standard car in the wet.
The ECS dogbone insert really helps, best mod goin for less than 30 quid

what did you have that lowered by 25mm, the Pro-System?
I want the car body to be parallell to the surface, not having the back stick up. So, what should I have installed, you'd reckon? Eiback coilovers? So, if I install coilovers I do not need to change any springs, right?
-
LOOOOOKIN GUUUUUUUUUD GAZ!!
looks even better in the flesh, espically with those discs on
my coilovers are here and so are my roll bars, just need fitting and il be a 'lowrider'

Think it was the pro-system and it lowered the front 20mm and the back by 4mm, so wasn't impressed.
Coilovers come with springs on adjustable platforms, so you can have the height where you like within reason.

....I don't mind the 'tail-in-the-air' look

-
OH FUDGE!!
Im really sorry.... I posted in the wrong thread :embarassed:
Sorry, sorry, sorry.
And you United Grey GTi looks awesome, exactly like ours except yours is Ed30.
Mike
-
Its called steel grey in the UK, is it exactly the same colour?
-
Yup. It is.
Except the Americans call it United Grey, so do the South Africans and so does Gran Turismo 4.
But hey. Its still the same colour

It certainly is manu, covered all over, as i work for Sky Tv, they cover all of their own vans for advertising.
-
Looking sweet, I see you have it back to where you were with the Original now
Can't exactly say I dont like the look

thats the one I was looking to get and I think its the one Gaz has.
The other was a neuspeed - both listed on Awesome's pages - http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/vw%20golfmk5/transmission.html
-
....I've got the Neuspeed torque arm insert (as first pic). The difference is subtle.

what do you mean, subtle? Is that no difference, or there is more engine vibration but better shifts and less engine rotation (as advertised)?

....I mean that on my GTI I find that the difference is difficult to detect - It's reduced an inclination to tramp but I use my right foot especially sensitively as a driver and always do everything to stay away from wheelspin. No difference to engine vibration (I didn't previously feel any). Engine rotation? - I'm not going to do scientific tests!
It's not one of those mods which gets up and grabs your attention. The full set of aftermarket engine mounts would make a difference felt.
-
I noticed more of an improvement in wheelhop reduction on the regular mk5 than the ED30, but then again there's more to cope with. No significant increase in vibration over stock
-
I fitted one to my previous Mk1 Leon Cupra R and it made a noticable difference. I think with the DSG cars you might not notice it as much as its not like you on/off/on the power during a gear change.
Still worth it IMO.
-
....Good point about the DSG, neg .
gaz - tramp meaning the same as wheelhop. I expect that a Quaife ATB will sort it out even more .
-
Been lookin into the diffs my self, somebody suggested waiting till peliquin release 1 as they tend to be cheaper then the Quaife equivalent.
-
....Yes, Peloquin are deff cheaper than Quaife but said to be not quite as good/durable. To be fair, I simply don't know but I'm inclined to go for a UK manufacturer because I can easily visit them if any problems.
IF I do it I'll wait for my DSG warranty to run out.
